This is what AI said about OG Misc

The Bodybuilding.com "Misc" (miscellaneous) subforum was a legendary, often toxic, and chaotic Internet community known for its trolling, intense fitness discussions, and rampant controversies over its nearly two-decade run.

In September 2024, the forums were officially discontinued by Bodybuilding.com. Wikipedia +1Here is a list of the most controversial happenings on the Misc forum over the years:

1. The 2008 "Days in a Week" Argument Considered "the dumbest argument in the history of the Internet," this 2008 thread featured a relentless debate over whether working out "every other day" meant 3.5 or 4 days a week. User "TheJosh" argued that Sunday-to-next-Sunday constituted 8 days, leading to intense ridicule and an unironic 5-page debate that went viral and was later featured in an SB Nation documentary. Wikipedia +2

2. Suicide of Abraham Biggs (2008)In one of the most tragic moments in Internet history, 19-year-old Abraham Biggs died by suicide while livestreaming on Justin.tv. He posted a link to the stream on the Misc forum beforehand, and many users encouraged him to proceed, thinking it was a troll, until it became clear the event was real. Wikipedia +2

3. Involvement in the Gable Tostee Trial (2014)Gable Tostee ("GT"), a prominent member of the Misc, was involved in the death of Australian woman Warriena Wright, who fell from his balcony. Tostee used the Misc forum to post his testimony and defense (thread titled "Regarding the balcony tragedy") before his 2016 acquittal of murder and manslaughter charges. Wikipedia +2

4. Association with Elliot Rodger (2014)Following the 2014 Isla Vista killings, it was discovered that the perpetrator, Elliot Rodger, was a user of the Bodybuilding.com forums and had posted about his insecurities and frustrations under the username "ElliotR". Wikipedia +1

5. The "Poz Exploit" (2011)A user known as "ThePoz" found an exploit that allowed access to private photos of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on the Facebook site. They subsequently publicized the method on the Misc forums, causing a massive security scandal. Wikipedia +3

6. Serious Cyberstalking IncidentsThe Misc was frequently accused of brigading and cyberstalking outside individuals. One notable case involved the stalking of Angie Varona, who, after being targeted by Misc users, eventually went on national television to discuss the harassment she faced from the forum.

7. Promotion of Dangerous Fitness MethodsThe forum was known for popularizing questionable or dangerous methods, most famously: GOMAD Diet: "Gallon Of Milk A Day," designed to increase mass but often leading to extreme fat gain.Dry-Scooping: Consuming pre-workout powder stimulants without water, which carries risks of choking and overdose. Wikipedia

8. 4chan Raids and TrollingThe Misc was often engaged in a "war" with 4chan, resulting in frequent raids where 4chan users would overwhelm the forum with obscene content and trolling. Scribd9.

Official Discontinuation (2024)The permanent shutdown of the forums in September 2024 by Bodybuilding.com was highly controversial among its user base. Users argued the decision destroyed a long-running, "supportive" (if chaotic) community, resulting in a petition to reverse the closure and a migration to new, independent forums. Wikipedia +3

So many other moments. It's probably cause the forums were wiped away and AI has no back history to truly reference misc to it's full extent. I guess AI has it's limitations after all...
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Pretty sure there's a specialized wiki somewhere that has a lot more Misc lore on it. But AI, especially google gemini, aren't going to do deep dives like that, they mainly search official sites related to the topic, redshit threads, and sometimes facebook posts. I've seen it reference some forums, at least a lot more than show up in a google search, but it's not going to search any place that would have posts related to Misc history.

4. Supreme Gentleman made a couple threads and posts on the Misc but wasn't a frequent. Very strange yet interesting look inside the head of someone like that. He made post, but would follow up as though he had not read anyone's post. I think the Misc for the most part tried to help him, although he did get the usual Misc treatment.

6. Detectives were no joke. Made it almost scary to post sometimes because although they didn't do much they put people's personal info on there.

8. Misc needs to come to terms that we may have beaten Reddit with Memes we did not win the war against 4-chan trolls.

There are ideology-clarifying usernames (RICHSTRONG, MinisterOfLust, weightsb4dates, WishIWasJawBrah, MericaThatsWhy) and statement-making profile pictures (deliberately titillating yet invariably off-putting abdominal shots, monochromatic selfies, strategically underlit bicep closeups).
