What proportions of mental health problems (anxiety/depression) do you think are caused by modern life
Constantly sitting with not enough exercise
Individualistic culture
Ultra-processed food with not enough fiber and too many simple carbs
Not enough sun
Electric lighting
Having kids later in life
Staring at light-filled boxed for hours on end
Social media algorithms and negative news that preys on fear and anger

All of them.
Everytime I go into a grocery store I start disassociating. The other day I seriously started wondering if I had died and was just a ghost or was going to pass out. I had also not eaten besides breakfast so I don’t think that helped. I think the buzzing, lights, people that forgot how to interact with other people can really create some weird ass shit.
I can see how things happen when people get that way. Gotta root back to reality somehow. How?
I always wonder how many people are panicking like me in grocery stores. I had someone smile at me when this shit was happening and I felt better but it’s weird like does all it take is a smile sometimes? How much can that shift a persons psyche.

I think the lights and buzzing make it worse though.
Like we know I go to music festivals. It’s rare for me to get super overstimulated at them. I did stop adding stimulation though because I was finding it weird to deal with. I don’t think it helps that I have chronic pain but my left side is getting stronger so that helps . My bones are out of wack and it messes with everything .

I can only point to my own experience.
But 6 months ago I was going to an office everyday, sitting there from 9-5pm and then getting absolutely hammered on the weekends. Pepsi, 15 drinks, had a vape in my hand at all times, always hungover etc.
I think I hated my job and that routine so much I turned to alcohol and drugs as an escape which further compounded my mental illness and severe depression.
I was fortunate enough to get fired and picked up a full time wfh gig and work remotely from my parents lake house now. I’m actually better at my job and want to work for these guys cause they let me do my thing.
I take a walk in nature every half hour; work outside from the dock as weather permits, don’t drink, use drugs, not even nicotine or caffeine and I’m 1000x happier. No more crippling depression, anxiety or existential dread.
