It's all about keeping your PH balance and good bacteria in a healthy range. You want to do simple basic washing and not overdue it.  The vagina cleanses on it's own and if you use all kinds of products in that area it usually throws off your PH balance.  If your PH balance is off, it lowers the good bacteria and this is when you're more likely to get things like yeast infections, BV and STI's.  Healthy diet and exercise are important too.
Some women might do everything right but they might have a weaker immune system...so it's not going to matter what they do.
