Just one day for me. Low level cold calling job in run down office. I even told one of the sub managers that I didn't want the job by about 3pm. Misunderstood job when I applied, and had no interest working there.

Was temping at another place for 3 weeks or so.

I sold insurance for about a month before I got activated to go to Iraq. I left the office that day and just didn't return the next day. Didn't tell anyone I wasn't coming in.

That's wild because they're legally required to hold your job while you're deployed. Some employers will even maintain your benefits and profit sharing. And at union jobs you'll keep moving up in seniority.

Dang! I guess I never thought about that back then. It was with Liberty National. It was a small base salary and then mostly commission. I didn't really like the job but the first two paychecks got us out of a lot of debt. My mindset was I didn't want to have to work a ton before I was about to leave the wife. We had been married about two months at the time.

I got fired and was running out of money so took a job selling foreign exchange contracts

It was awful … 100 cold calls a day and I sucked at it

4 months and I honestly feel like it was two months too long

When I was in college, I took a job at the best Country Club in my area as an assistant server. Worked there for the Summer, and then was still kinda hanging on grabbing some extra shifts once the Fall semester started up. There was one day some old lady who was a total loser and had been a server there for like 20 years started trying to be a bitch and order me around, and I kinda said fuck it and walked out mid shift and never came back.

This is one trait that has been engrained in me sometime during my life that has been a major benefit. Never get in a habit of taking orders from low status insecure people. If you ever find yourself in a position where these people feel comfortable trying to place themselves above you, it's time to move along.

A lot of companies will tell you what you want to hear to get your hired on, but once you get there you find out real fast it's all BS. Get everything in writing is a good tip, but even then, there are a lot of things you can't put into writing. A big red flag is if the person you are dealing who you are interviewing with and doing your onboarding is in a "recruiter" role. I know it's work, it's not going to be all sunshine and rainbows, but there is a point of deception and what I consider fraud.

Got hired at this one place and after a couple hours of working they pulled me in and said they couldn't pay me what they originally quoted me, but after 90 days they would give me a dollar raise instead of the fifty cents raise we discussed. It was fifty cents an hour lower for that first 90 days. I'm not going to work for 90 days so they can lie to me again. Clocked out and left. Owner even called back later and said he could make that fifty cents happen now. The icing on the cake was it was a privately owned business and the owner telling me this, as though he had to go through some corporation. Bro, you make the rules, you are the policy.

I have walked out of orientation twice.

Bussed at a restaurant for one day when I was 15. That's all it took for me to realize I never wanted to do that ever again in my life srs.

My longest stint with one employer was 13.5 years. Got made redundant and got a respectable package at the end of those 13.5 years.

2 hours. Realized they wanted bodies to go around different neighborhoods "Canvassing for doners for some bs charity". Dipped out without saying bye.

Then they tried to not pay me. I had to harass them to get paid


It was a Subway. The sandwich shop. It was a franchise location and the owner was an idiot

Came in the first day for "training" for 4 hours. But it was essentially training as you go, said I would make practice sandwiches but every sandwich I made they sold and learning the register on the fly.

Promised me eventually I would get a schedule and to just wait.

The next week She still wouldn't give me a schedule..she essentially wanted me to be on call for a minimum wage job. She called me up one day at like 9am and wanted me to come in that day for 2 hours only to cover lunch rush and I told her that is ridiculous just send me my check

This is when min wage was like 5 bucks an hour. I am
Not going to be on call to come in on short notice to make 10 dollars pre taxes. She is fucking crazy

Then I had to keep calling because they never entered me in the payroll system and she eventually sent me a personal check. She wasn't going. To pay me.


Oh and she had more than one location. I saw the sign at the one close to my house, applied there and then when I got the job was told it was for the store 10 miles away across a toll bridge. The only thing good about it was all the hbbs in bikinis coming in from the beach

I remember when I worked for a hvac company they used to hire “welders” and put them to work digging ditches and whatnot lol

their "welders" were just tackers and hardly did any welding

This is why I can’t take welding serious as a career option everybody thinks there gonna make so much money welding then half of them end up doing something completely different

it is a srs career u just need to be a on the road stick welder/mobile heavy equipment welder or high pressure pipe welder. if ur stuck in a shop every day with a mig welder ur just a monkey anyone can do that. being on the road with a stick welder is problem solving

I think it was four hours. Selling newspaper subscriptions over the phone (yes, I'm that old).

Went in for my first shift, they gave me a script and had me start autodialing. Most people hung up on me, a couple actually let me get past the first few words. On the first break I heard people talking about their jobs and it sounded like hell so I just walked away. Didn't even bother to ask about getting paid.
