Spirit Airlines going out of business

Rising fuel costs cited as the main reason. I’m sure the now approx 17,000 unemployed workers will be glad the DOW will hit 50k though!

The budget airline was in talks with the US government about a rescue deal which would have saved it from collapse. But discussions collapsed and the carrier said in an announcement on its website on Saturday that with "great disappointment" the airline had "started an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately".Spirit was emerging from its second bankruptcy filing in recent years before the US-Israel war in Iran, but the resulting surge in jet fuel costs pushed it over the brink. All upcoming flights with Spirit have been cancelled. In Saturday's statement, the airline said it would automatically process refunds for any flights purchased through Spirit with a credit or debit card to the original form of payment. Guests who booked flights via a travel agent should contact the travel agent directly to request a refund.

Pocahontas in 2024....

And Pocahontas two days ago lol...

It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.

Spirit cited rising fuel costs, not Elzabeth Warren. Nice try though. 🤣🤣

“Unfortunately, despite the Company’s efforts, the recent material increase in oil prices and other pressures on the business have significantly impacted Spirit’s financial outlook,” Spirit said in a statement announcing its “orderly wind-down.”

Rising fuel cost is the excuse eh?

The are bankrupt because they are a poorly run business that also suffered from too many government obstacles.

Spirit Airlines (via its parent entity) first filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on November 18, 2024 after the merger to save them failed.

It emerged from that restructuring in March 2025 but faced continued challenges and filed for Chapter 11 again on August 29, 2025

"Fuel prices" didn't drive this...

This happened way before fuel prices

Bad business practices and government did.

TF is this shit anyway...

In 2024, Senator Warren supported the Biden Administration’s DOJ suing to prevent the merger between JetBlue and Spirit, fearing “fewer flights and higher fares”.
"We gonna merge together so customers have fewer options and pay us less money!"

Said no company ever.

Pocahontas, Bernie, and AOC are three worthless career politicians who have never even had an actual job in the private sector, and they should be kept away from any and all decisions regarding it.

And actually occurred when fuel costs sent them over the edge. Learn the difference between Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and actually going out of business. Thanks for playing. :)

FML Phil...

They filed bankruptcy twice. They tried to merge with JetBlue in order to survive - and they were blocked by your boy Potato Joe - which Pocahontas was so gleeful over.

Phil... They filed Chapter 11 twice.

In order to survive as a company - which is kinda what chapter 11 is for, they tried to merge with another company and were blocked by Potato Joe, which was celebrated by Pocahontas.

Had they been allowed to merge we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Just ignore the multiple Chapter 11 filings because the company was getting run into the ground and just focus on the part they can try and blame on Trump. It's the way of the pedo cult.

You can absolutely guarantee that if Nogger Air got a Trump government bailout these same mouth breathers would be complaining about that too.

Things are healing a little bit at a time, air travel should be for white people with money anyway.

You are 400 pounds. What would you know about an airline company other than being forced to buy 2 seats when you travel?

Actually, they were blocked by a federal judge that was appointed by... St. Ronald Reagan. Another swing and miss, retard. :)

Get to that judge in a second...

But let's be clear- this was blocked because  (DOJ), under the Biden administration, sued to block JetBlue Airways’ proposed $3.8 billion acquisition of Spirit Airlines- for crazy lib reasons.

This was the first U.S. airline merger blocked on antitrust grounds in recent history.

This was initiated by Biden administration suing...

https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/pr/justice-department-statements-jetblue-terminating-acquisition-spirit-airlines

Now about that Judge

Appointed by Reagan yes- Reagan had to wait until the 1985 congress to take session- and this dude was appointed by a senate that only had a +3 seat majority- and before Harry Reid broke the filibuster rule for federal judges in 2013- so Reagan was forces into compromise "moderate" nominations in some cases.

The judge slowly converted however, until he became full TDS bat chit crazy.

To the point he had to apologize for tds being so bad he defied the supreme court

https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/judge-accused-by-gorsuch-kavanaugh-defying-us-supreme-court-apologizes-2025-09-02/

And that was following over 160 pages of flat out TDS rant in a ruling as well
