1 month no alcohol dear diary thread and observations

Longest streak ever since highschool srs

- have realized I’m a person who lacks any sort of depth, my life has been work during the week and get hammered on the weekends … I have no other interests and am extremely small minded … life feels almost empty without alcohol which is pathetic

- I don’t know if I have any real friendships, my entire social life and all connections have revolved around getting drunk on weekends … pregame and attempting to pick up girls

- life is extremely extremely boring but wouldn’t trade that for the extreme depression from alcohol and the bag … would take a boring life over sitting in a dark room for days coming down from Pepsi and booze

- feel like alcohol is a necessary evil to succeed in business, especially sales and I’m not sure giving it up is a smart move from that standpoint but I could be wrong

- there is nothing more I’d like to do than call the bag man, hit the vape and smash 19 beers right now srs … so still addicted I guess

Cutting it out just for the health benefits is probably worth it in itself.

I plan to quit smoking once I get closer to my goal bodyweight, I wont do it now because I will just rebound into eating more.

I mean if you could take off a month from alcohol your addiction seems to be very manageable. Some people can't go more than a day. You talk about the "comedown" and sitting in a room. A lot of people just keep doing the drug so they don't have to deal with that. Wish I had advice on how to make life less boring with no alcohol though.

Life without alcohol or drugs is pretty lame and uneventful.
You need a sober friend group and a girlfriend. Then its nice.
If youre alone and dont have sober friends it just sucks and it probably wont last long.
You need to accept sober life asap and work those things out.

Interesting post. I myself have never really gotten involved with alcohol. I drink the odd glass of wine at social events, port at Christmas, Pimms cocktails and the like, but I never drunk socially or get wrekced. Never been out on the lash and downed 10 pints with the lads.

So I basically live an alcohol free life in the broad scheme of things. There is much more than life to alcohol. Try and put your overall health and mental wellbeing before work and making money. I hope you stay sober and manage to reach a better state of lifestyle.

I feel like drinking is necessary if you 're a businessperson. Getting drunk 1x per week is kind of like a mini vacation from life, which is great for someone who is pretty much working 24/7 otherwise.

Agree on doing Pepsi though. I actually tried getting some last night, but luckily I did such a good job like 6 months ago of erasing all of my blow contacts(and old text conversations with them) that I literally had no way to get in touch with anybody. Obviously I could still get it if I really put myself out there, but it's not something I wanted to do that badly.

I'm your friend Brad. That's all you need.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

For some reason my brain did a 180 at some point and I don't find getting drunk enjoyable at all...but I love (good) beer, so it still happens - but anything beyond a light buzz and I just end up feeling like "this sucks".

I hope to eventually reach that level but I still find myself wanting to get drunk … it’s a sunny day here and it’s 10:40am and there is nothing more I’d love to do than get day drunk srs

Yeah man I don’t have sober friends so it’s tough

A friend of mine asked me the other day when I’m back in the city and I’m missing out etc and in my mind all I’m thinking is missing out on what man, getting hammered in a bar with you and spending all my money to feel like shit for 4 days while wrecking my health and mind

All anyone wants to do is drink in my life

I feel like this no drinking route will be very lonely but I think it’s worth it srs

I had tons of friends and barely knew who half of them were when I was a heavy drinker. Alcohol is great for socializing, but eventually you learn how to have fun and make friends without drinking. It just seems a bit weird when you first quit and realize it was the lowered inhibition that made it so simple before

I understand brah. I agree that alcohol is a necessary evil especially when it comes to work, if you're that "sober guy" everyone thinks there's something wrong with you

that said it can be done in moderation, I'd suggest setting a physical goal similar to the boxing thing you did. Running a marathon, some kind of lifting thing, whatever it is. It's good to have a goal like that where you're 1 focused on something and 2 drinking will mess with that goal so you'll tend to naturally drink less

i've kind of been in your position and this is what helped me

This is your brain resetting. I had a friend that played in a band where people would always buy them shots. He said he had about 4 whiskey shots in the last hour and a half. Had the last one 30 min before he left, and got pulled over. Refused all tests, and at the station blew .11 so he got a DUI.

2 years probation of no alcohol allowed. Same friend and another one and I all did dry January a year ago about 2 years after this. I was bored beyond belief after 2 weeks and told him this was tougher than I thought and when do you just not care and view it as normal. He said it took 3 months and by then being around people drinking was almost strange to him. But haha as soon as he realized he was never getting tested after about 9 months he was back at enjoying a few beers.

It will take some time but you will learn to make new hobbies that don't involve alcohol

You'll have to figure out if you're an all or nothing kind of guy, when you make new friends in new hobbies they still might want to have a few beers but you'll have to decide if you're someone who can't just have a few while fishing or whatever
