Don't you hate it when

Someone comes up to you and says "can I ask you one question?"

I have a guy at work who does this like 5 times a day. I have to be losing like 2 hours a year to this guy asking me if he can ask me questions.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

The issue isn't that he needs to ask a question. It's that he needs to ask me if he can ask a question every time. Instead of just asking the question.

It is a passive aggressive way for them to get a commitment for an answer to a question you may not want to answer.

I always say “you can do whatever you want, if you do ask me a question, I will make every attempt to ensure I have a mutual understanding of it, and then consider if I want to answer or not”.
“The stories and information posted here are artistic works of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted here as fact.“

PS: Don't eat poop, just don't let the idea of it stop you from living life to its fullest.

It's honestly just a way to bridge into the question without dropping it on you out of nowhere.

In some ways it's basic conversation skills but most of you are autistic as fuck so you take it too literally that he's asking you a question to ask a question. Normal people don't get tripped up on stuff like this. You're just an autistic fuck OP

All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

I do. Every single time. Today he asked me if he could ask me a question. Then he asked me if he could turn on the "AI rectifier" and I asked him what that does. He tells me it rectifies. Which is technically correct but also useless.

I'm trying to get him to think logically about issues he may encounter, but it seems there's some sort of mental block or something. There's a gap, it's not a knowledge gap. It's something else.

Maybe he's a genius with extensive knowledge but lack of social skills. (srs) If you have patience with him, maybe he'll have loyalty at least.

“Can I ask you a question” sounds autistic to me.

The more normal phrasing is “Hey OP, quick question for you, where can I find the … ”

or if you think it’s going to be more involved

“Hey, OP, do you have a minute? I was looking at X and had a few questions about Y.”

Everybody has some sort of thing they always say without realizing its part of their routine in talking. He may not even be aware he does it. Just tell him he doesn't need to ask permission

Kinda this tbh. He may feel awkward just launching into the question without providing a preface or a pleasantry before asking

I'm not usually bothered by stuff like this. However, if it's an employee that's peppering me with inane questions all day every day, sometimes I get there.

He has said he's trying to be respectful. I have told him there's no need.

I have told him many times to just ask the question.

It’s kind of like asking a vague question as a thread title like “Don’t you hate it when” and then proceeding to make a crap thread.

I joke, I’m the most senior person on my team so I get a shit ton of questions every day. The most annoying aspect of that for me is that they usually call me over to their desk when its not necessary most of the time
