It's too late for me but maybe others can be warned in time.

Yup, I’ve been preparing for HV with confidence for years. Just wish more people knew sooner.

We will tell of your tale.

I grew up in a house infested with mice (srs).

Nothing bad will happen to you. The concern with vacuuming is that it causes the poop to get aerosolized and some mice carry hantavirus (a different strain than the one in the news right now).

The chances of you getting sick from vacuuming are so low it’s not even worth worrying about. Most states report low single digit cases every year. Some states still have zero cases in recorded history.

If you live in the desert southwest there’s a slightly higher chance of contracting it due to the deer mice population out there, but still highly unlikely.

I recommend exterminating those filthy rat motherfuckers outta your home tho.

I’m working on a stairway to heaven bucket to get rid of them. I’ve caught three mice already in a glue trap but feel terrible that they suffer like that. I don’t want diseases though so a bucket with water should kill them quicker.

the chickens are probably 80% of the problem right there (feed on the ground). Cats are super-predatory and tons of species have an innate fear of them. Its not so much as they catch mice as it is they keep them the fuck away.

Glue traps aren't very effective IMO. I have much better results with a standard mouse trap with peanut butter for bait.

Some of the mice carried the whole trap out into the yard. It was another mouse who toted it off. I think it's ok for house mice but a rat it won't do much. I created a stairway to heaven with a rod, bucket, almond butter on a Coke can in the middle of the bucket on the rod. I put a stairway for them to go to heaven. :)
