I disagree, I think a fast decline is much better. A fast decline opens people's eyes to just how shit the system is, how both parties don't really have an allegiance to the common voter. There you go again making pointless assumptions. I just don't agree that this is permanent. I interact with a lot of blue collar workers and sure they don't like gas prices now, but they aren't taking it as bad as you are.

No idea, but we all don't have much of a choice and I just don't like the idea of giving up as if there is zero hope and conclude that this is permanent. I don't like the war, but we are in it and we all have to deal with it until it is over. I understand Booboo's position, but I am only trying to offer another view that this is not permanent and I want a safer world. Not a boomer concept and it is possible.

It's the gradual residual effect of higher diesel and fuel that hits pretty much every industry that exists. Food prices have to go up because transportation costs are higher and the supply of fertilizer is affected. The contractor who drives around all day fixing stuff for people pays more to run his business, and therefore has to either increase prices or spend less - or both. Families have to give up stuff that was okay because a couple of hundred bucks a month is now too expensive for a budget, or they go deeper into debt.

The idea that it's just gas prices is idiotic.

Seen some oil CEOs and other financial experts give reports that this will last well into the year, even if this war ends this month.


Also, let's say this is "temporary" and gas goes drastically down before midterms, which seems to be highly unlikely at this point, but let's say it does. The war in Iran ends. What do you want to see Iran agree to in a deal for you to consider that this was all worth it? The "temporary" economic burden caused by the Iran war

I don't like President Trump, however

1) If we're so weak as a country that we can't handle prices going up 50% that's just pathetic. We have become incredibly decadent and unwilling to tolerate even the smallest amount of hardship.

2) In a market economy prices will eventually correct even if the Strait stays closed forever.

Sure, but "eventually" can take years or decades to correct because 20%-25% of the worlds oil passing through that Strait is a lot. And during this correction, the permanent economic costs to the world would be disastrous. And lets not forget, its not just oil that passes through the Strait


I think the question right now is, not IF the Strait stays closed forever, because it won't be. It will be opened up eventually, but HOW will the strait be operated going forward? If it's under Irans control, this is a humongous L for the U.S., and it will have some serious geopolitical consequences for U.S. foreign influence going forward. Trump basically shot America in the foot if this ends up being the case, something that didn't need to happen.
