Missouri may soon have a new bill called “Bentley’s Law”

Missouri is considering a new law, known as “Bentley’s Law,” that would require drivers convicted of killing a parent while intoxicated to pay child support to the surviving spouse or guardian raising the victim’s children. Sponsored by State Rep. Dave Griffith, the bill mandates that courts determine payment amounts using similar guidelines as in divorce and custody cases, taking into account the child’s needs and the caregiver’s resources. Payments would begin within a year of the offender’s release and continue until the child turns 18, or 21 if pursuing higher education or has a qualifying disability. The law aims to provide financial stability for children who lose a parent to a DWI crash and hold offenders accountable. Critics have raised concerns about enforcing payments if the offender lacks income. The bill now awaits Governor Mike Kehoe’s approval and would take effect on August 28, 2026, if signed.

Anyone who causes permanent damage to another person while driving drunk or under the influence, should be executed.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Nah, this is just more politicians passing laws that get people fired up but change nothing.

They're already going to get sued out the ass in civil court.

Adding child support is just more money they won't pay because they are

1) in jail for manslaughter

2) an alcoholic who is likely judgement proof

3) already in debt $5M for the civil suit anyway

All you're doing is ensuring they'll never turn it around because if they do improve themselves 50% of their paycheck will disappear into the court system.
