The Big Shrink

Or why falling birth rates will wreck things.

I think every time a low birth rate thread is posted there are at least a few people who say something like "good" or "who cares?".

And I'm certain that I have pointed out that it is a problem as far as paying for things like social security, though that isn't convincing to those who have decided SS was cooked no matter what.

This is a long video, but in the first twenty minutes or so they mention:

- existing government debt of all kinds falling on the shoulders of fewer taxpayers

- rural areas being abandoned

- hospitals closing if Medicare/Medicaid aren't there to cover bills

- fewer geniuses being born, or IOW humanity as a whole becoming dumber

- potentially the death of innovation as older people tend to be okay with just using what they already have

- likelihood of wars in the near future as countries realize they are at peak enlistment age citizenry and that as the number of young adults tanks they won't have another shot

There might have been more. That is only what I remember having watched it some time ago.

I don't get how these two things can be true at the same time:

-We need to up the birthrate so we'll have enough people in the workforce in 20 years (or open the borders to import those workers)

-AI, humanoid robots and other forms of automation are going to replace pretty much all of us in the workforce. Low skilled workers most of all

Because the second is already happening and will likely peak before 2040. You can have 50 million babies born tomorrow, they'll be in middle school by the time robots are essentially doing all menial/retail/factory work.

Well the sticky bit is that tools like AI and robots don't pay taxes or consume goods and services the way that a living human does. It is true that those tools may help to avoid a labor crunch, but they won't fix the other problems. And, as you pointed out, if tools are doing jobs so that humans have less paid work that would make the taxation/debt situation even worse because those people with no work opportunities will be looking to the government to provide sustenance instead of paying taxes.

I'm doing my part.

All those racists on this site who seem to be so worried about the great replacement should be doing what I do but for some reason none of the white supremacists seem to have any kids at all.

I wonder why that is?

Interesting bit-

Just heard that in the US if a woman doesn't have a child by age 27 the odds that she will ever have a child are 50/50.

Income taxes are just one form of taxes. If wealth exists in any form, it can be taxed, that includes machines. Lower consumption would actually be good, since all else being equal it would mean larger slices of the same pie for everyone.

At the end of the day if you increase productivity enough it doesn't matter what the birth rate is.

The question is, is that possible? So far it has not been in places like Japan. If AGI comes along it will solve that problem, at least.

Seems about right. Anecdotally if they start having kids early 20s they want 3 or 4 and they don't care who the donor is.

If they start age 30 or more they only want 1 or 2 and they start getting VERY picky - they only want the perfect donor.

We may all just end up living on a kind of social security the government forces corporations to pay into. It'll cover necessities (food, bills, housing, transport) and if people want more than that they'll have to get creative I suppose.

It can't get too bad though. Because if you make a good chunk (20% or more) of the population starving, desperate, and homeless the guillotines tend to come out.

This is why I tend to date 22-year-olds.

Again, this is the way it has to be. We live in a democracy, so the government/military/etc. technically has to act in the interests of the people. If it doesn't, shit kicks off.

That's true in any form of government lol. The democracy part just makes the transition a little less bloody.

I think there's a point where it's near impossible to fight back. Like if the US was capable of occupying Iraq and Afghanistan indefinitely. Yes, they'd lose soldiers to ambushes and IEDs, but in terms of technical capability they're staying as long as the political will is there.

In the US itself, there are more guns than people and politicians know this full well. Also the military is made up of those same people and wouldn't be too keen to watch their families starve then drone strike their own starving friends/relatives when it all gets a bit too much for people.

Heard it described a little differently. Said that if a woman starts earlier then she is more likely to have the number of children that she wants, but if she keeps waiting trying to tie down the best man she can then she may not have children at all.

So you're essentially saying the elites are freaking out because the labor market is decreasing, while they keep printing money to devalue the dollar so the next generations can inherit the ever-increasing debt and be slaves to their antics?

Sounds like they just want more workers, and this is fear-mongering to have babies, so they can continue to print money and have the new generations continue paying the debt with their taxes. Once the labor market gets too small to continue paying the debt that just keeps increasing, the dollar will become useless, and America will collapse.

I think they should have figured this all out before being bought out by the Jews and taking away the gold standard. The Jews don't care; they have leached on our network for decades and will do so until they suck it dry and it collapses. Then they'll do it to someone else. Sound familiar to anyone?
