I am on day 3 of fasting (only water and salt)

The time between May. 25, 2026, 2:15:00 AM and May. 27, 2026, 6:02:04 AM is: 2 days, 3 hours, 47 minutes, and 4 seconds

Felt totally wiped out last evening, went to bed at 9pm but felt too weak to sleep. I guess I took about an hour to fall asleep. Then woke up at 3 am and was reading Bible commentaries and theological writeups until my wife woke up at 4:30 to prepare for work.

Then I started simulating my new home office layout and took some pics of the measurements of the optimal configuration

You should be taking in electrolytes and sodium isn't enough. Potassium and magnesium are needed as well.

Do it right and stay healthy. :)

When I do my 5 day fasts I use zero calorie gatorade and do a few shots of pickle juice at the end of day for the sodium.

Works just fine...no need to go crazy.

Good night :)

Will keep this in mind but I think it's not that big a deal in my experience, last time I did a 3 day fast I only took water, not even salt, and I felt great. I think the body is a lot more robust than we are told, the only thing I wouldn't risk is a total fast without water, don't wanna take a gamble on my precious and well beloved kidneys. It's 6:39 AM here, miscing before work is the best kinda miscing

Anyone have evidence of a multi-day fast doing anything? Sometimes I'll fast a day if I'm sick or something which is rare but why multiple days?

Supposedly, body enters autophagy and goes after weak/damaged cells to use for fuel. It is a way to "clean up" your body. There is probably some truth to it. At least from podcast and news I've seen over the years.

The preventive benefits of a fasting, calorie‐restricted diet on cancer formation and progression are due to several interconnected processes. Energy restriction resulted in major metabolic and hormonal adaptations referenced to lower cancer risk, including lower insulin levels and enhanced sensitiveness of insulin sensitivity, higher levels of IGFBP1 and SHBG, lower levels of testosterone and estrogen, and lower oxidative and inflammatory processes. 3 , 5 , 6 , 9 , 16 Long‐term calorie restriction diets, a form of fasting, stimulate repair in the DNA, autophagy, antioxidant, and heat‐shock protein chaperone pathways at the molecular level while reducing cell growth and senescence indicators. 3 , 5 , 6 , 8 , 21 , 50 Reduced synthesis of various growth factors and reactive oxygen and improved anticancer immunity are other processes. 55Fasting for more than 1 day regularly might be beneficial to health through shielding healthy normal cells from the toxicity of chemotherapy and radiation. Cancerous cells, but not healthy normal surrounding cells, may be prevented from converting into a stress resilience state in fasting by genetic abnormalities such as RAS, AKT, and mTOR. 5 , 22 , 28 , 29 Fasting could preserve normal tissue against the harmful side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs while enhancing cancerous cell therapeutic outcomes, using a process known as the differential stress response. 24 , 29 , 37 Furthermore, cancerous cells have an aberrant metabolic activity predominantly based on glycolysis, resulting in greater glucose absorption and glucose degradation to lactate, a phenomenon known as the Warburg effect. 27 , 60 As a result, glucose deprivation may sensitize cancerous cells to the harmful side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs and increase apoptosis, as shown in extended fasting and ketogenic diets. 18 , 24 , 29 , 37 , 38 A decrease in IGF‐1 due to prolonged fasting enhanced cancer cells' sensitization to chemotherapy, promoting hematopoietic stem cell‐based regeneration and reversing immunosuppression action. 61 , 62 This long‐term fasting practice was correlated with low insulin and IGF‐1 levels, as well as a reduction in headaches, weakness, and stomatitis. Additionally, during the fasting periods, the overall toxicity score was dramatically lowered, and there were much fewer treatment delays.

If this is true then everything I had been told as a child is a lie, was made to believe a week without food or 3 days without water you die.

Week without food is definitely a lie. No water fast you could faint without it I guess but death is doubtful.

Genuinely curious why you do this if you're already in top shape? I'm considering it due to the supposed benefits created by autophagy but there seems to be some mixed science on the benefits.

I do it for heath benefits only. Cell repair/autophagy, reduces inflammation, healthy brain function, heart health, improves blood/sugar management, etc...

same, cancer prevention too, people who are "considering it, but not sure because mixed science" are kidding themselves, they just don't want to put down the fork. The benefits have been known for thousands of years by now. Physical, psychological, spiritual. Today's science can just explain it in more detail than thousands of years ago, but they knew.

There's mixed science on the cellular benefits particularly when it comes to tumors. When the cells rapidly repair coming off of fast, there's potential for it actually increase tumor growth potential. If the science was clear and positive, but would be a huge motivating factor - but that's not the case. I wish it were, but it's not that clear cut.

However, there’s a caveat: if cancerous mutations occur during this regenerative phase, the mice are at a higher risk of developing early-stage intestinal tumours."Having more stem cell activity is good for regeneration, but too much of a good thing over time can have less favourable consequences," said Omer Yilmaz, an associate professor of biology at MIT and the senior author of the new study. Intestinal stem cells help to renew the lining of the intestine, which is replaced entirely every five to ten days. This rapid division makes them more likely to develop precancerous changes than other cell types in the intestine.
