Because firing someone for a very standard Facebook post about a public figure is apparently not fireable offense I'd imagine. You don't suddenly have no free speech rights because you work at a public university.

The administration at public universities are full of two faced assholes who continuously boast about being inclusive and accommodating to everyone's opinion. But they're also easily offended and vindictive at the same time.

Add in nearly unlimited access to public money, and the result of the equation is that the lady got paid.
