That's the first movie I remember seeing as a kid, and the first time I was called a retard.

My dad was watching it on tbs or something and I remember thinking it looked like a really old movie (cause old movies look old and different than new movies if they aren't remastered or whatever), but they were in space ships and stuff so I thought it could be the future. I didn't really understand how the tv worked at that age so I really thought it could be from the future.

I remember walking down the hallway on a warm probably summer night into the living room where my dad was watching Star Wars, I innocently asked my father if the movie was old or from the future as I was genuinely confused. He was in the middle of taking a drag from his cigarette and turned his head towards me before he set his smoke down in the ashtray. He gave me a look i didn't understand at the time but over the years I would grow to know; a look of disgust traced with an at least equal amount of confusion that I had about Star Wars on his face.

We locked eyes for a few moments seemingly waiting for the smoke to clear the air from the last drag of his cigarette as light sabers hummed from the tv speakers. After what seemed like an eternity to my eager probably 5 year old child brain my beloved father finally gave me a well thought answer.

"Are you fuckin retarded?"

Then he picked up his cigarette turned his head back to the T.V. and took another drag.

I don't think Star Wars is rated R, but that was definitely my first rated R movie experience.

My dad had it on VHS and I remember watching it when I was about 6 or 7 years old.

Probably Stripes or The Thing, my parents let me watch anything though, I just have vivid early 80's memories of those. We didn't have cable before that so I doubt I saw any in the 70's.
