Millennials spend $252 on an average date

The figure, which CNBC reported on in April, comes from BMO Financial Group’s 2026 BMO Real Financial Progress Index. The average “all-in” spend on a date in America — including pre-date grooming and gas money, as well as the cost of the date itself — has climbed to $189, up 12.5% from last year, BMO found. “Date-flation,” as the report dubbed it, far outpaced the 2.7% inflation rise over the same period.

Millennials reported the highest average cost per date and the largest year-over-year increase, according to BMO’s year-over-year generational data:

Gen Z: $205, up from $194Millennials: $252, up from $191Gen X: $173, up from $172Baby boomers: $126, down from $127

The bank polled 2,501 adults in late December through January.Inflation has worsened since then. The consumer price index rose 3.8% year over year in April 2026, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics reading.

I took a millenial out to Fogo de Chao last night, total was around $275, 2 meals were $150 plus 5 glasses of wine (3 for me 2 for her) for $15 each. plus 20% tip = 275. The drinks are what get you, drink inflation is out of control. You gotta watch for the chicks that order the $25 drinks and drink like fish.

This is going to include dates with long-term bf/gf so you're basically mixing in tickets to a show of some kind, plus dinner, plus drinks or dessert afterward. Obviously not every date will be like this but these are going to pull the average up quite a bit

Not a fan of Chinese food but people who are, love it.. good fresh ingredients but the price reflects that.. not a fan of the sharing plates shit tho... like me and the wife, no problem. go to a new place and she doesn't know what to get between two plates. order both and i'll take the one you like least.. within reason tho.. like if its a fish and steak plate.. not a fucking salad and a steak, at that point.. hoe is trippin

they recently opened a Wing Stop around me.. well there's plenty but there's a Bdubs closer and it doesn't justify a 20 minute drive for wings.

We're out for dinner roughly once a week, or once every two at the very least - last one was up over $300, the place didn't do much in the way of fancy food - it was largely the booze (two starters, two mains, two dessert, cocktails and a couple glasses of wine); a couple of months ago we had an 8 course degustation at a French place that, with a bottle of reisling, was over $400. Shit, we'll drop close to $100 on breakfast every second Sunday when we have the day off together.

Fairly standard from where I'm sitting.

Yeah if this includes actual couples then it makes more sense. Paying that for a first date/meet or someone you barely know is crazy.
