TRUMP HALTS REPERATIONS.

Federal government seeks to halt the first U.S. reparations program for Black people

The federal government on Tuesday asked a judge to halt the United States’ first reparations program that offered Black people in a small Illinois city $25,000 for 20th century race-based housing discrimination, joining an existing lawsuit that called the program unconstitutional.

The program, launched in Evanston, Illinois in 2021, is the first and only one of its kind in the U.S., allotting $20 million to Black residents — their direct descendants — who lived in the city between 1919 and 1969 and suffered housing discrimination because of city ordinances, policies or practices.

Residents, regardless of race, who experienced discrimination due to the city’s policies or practices after 1969 also qualified.

The city has already distributed over $7 million — using revenue from a local tax on legal marijuana sales — to hundreds of people in $25,000 increments to be used for home repairs, down payments on property, and interest or late penalties on property in the city.

The Source of Funds: U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance, have clarified that the U.S. government is not paying this money. Any potential reconstruction fund would rely on investments from private companies and Gulf Arab nations (the Gulf Coast Coalition)

I mean, on principle I 100% agree with overturning reparations nonsense, but it’s pointless in the long run if you’re fuking up elsewhere so badly that you’re going to get the reparations party swept back into legislative and potentially executive control. Then the reparations nonsense will be back ten fold

That's the whole point. I thought the trump movement was about retaking america and causing a permanent shift in our politics.Instead, trump sold out, and we'll get a four year respite from mass immigration but democrats will retake power and things will go back to the way they were. And for some reason, trumpers seem to be okay with this and just lash out angrily when you point it out

Who cares what they want? Doesn't matter which party controls the White House.

Its not happening, a nothingburger, meanwhile, taxpayer dollars continue to be wasted by both parties on stupid shit. I'm not going to celebrate saving 20 million, while we waste billions on Ukraine, for example.

Good. 90% of it will just be pissed away. Still though, you can't give away government money based on race.

Black people complain about ordinances discriminating. Why, you have to cut your lawn? Can't have 15 cars parked in a driveway with 4 car maximum? What they will do is move into a nice house in the suburbs and then rent out every room and even make living spaces into bedrooms for relatives and other people so you can easily have 10 people living in a 3br 2.5bath 2000sqft house, then they always have homies over, cars parked in the yard, cars parked along the street front blocking traffic, rap music blaring out the windows, ghetto drama, their kids wandering around the neighborhood in people's yards at all hours, stuff starts getting stolen, cars get broken into, cops called.

These topics aren't really a huge talking point for me.


But I find it interesting, because one of my closets friends texted me the other day he's cool with reparations now, and tbh, I'm fine with them too.


I'd put some stipulations on them, like real deportations for people that shouldn't be here. And instead of giving those subsidies to illegals give them to people who actually should be getting them.


Or better yet, shrink down the military budget, stop funding billions to Israel, and take some of that money and redistribute it would be even better.


I'd also make the top 10% pay for them, since all the wealth in this country has filtered to them since 08'. I'd tax the fuck out of all their asset wealth.


Give them their reparations for the troubles of the past, and let it be over.


Once I broke out of the traditional way conservatives think about things I've definitely grew in my views on these types of social issues.

I mean, there will always be disputes, but none the less I'm cool with it.

Some of the people closet to me in my life are not whiteys, because I relate to people who more or less come from the struggle.

I'm more of a class conflict commie, tbh. Everything for me in this economic struggle comes down to class. I absolutely abhor capitalism, and capitalism is the root of the reparations issue.

Socialism works for me on if practiced correctly.


In my personal life, when I've had neutral convos about economics, I've converted people to the light of socialism.


And most younger folks are moving to that viewpoint regardless. Capitalism is a boomer system of corruption and inequality.
