No fucker lives in Manhattan. There are somewhat "affordable" bits of Brooklyn and the Bronx. Especially if you don't mind roommates.

LA is weird because you can be in a 5* hotel downtown and fucking Skid Row (the actual Skid Row) is like two blocks away. Wild.

Chicks there are hot af mind. Same can be said for NYC though.

Coconut grove in Florida - used to be the same way - I’d take the bus through it and it would be straight slums/ghetto type shit and then boom you’d cross over to rich people. There it was a product of redlining. Not sure how skid row came to be but maybe similar

I think it was originally just a strip of cheap hotels for labourers and general down and outs, which then led to people just sleeping on the street there when it went tits up and they couldn't afford the rooms any more (like when the work went in the 1930s). Then in recent decades homeless charities set up shop there (because that's where all the homeless are). And now it's this huge area where all the hobos live.

NYC's different. Those fuckers are everywhere. You also get blends of affluence and utter shit. Like Chelsea, stacked with multi-million dollar apartments right next to housing projects.

I stayed in Coconut Grove on holiday the other year. It looked pretty well off and hipster-ish.

I looked into it more . Apparently the part of coconut grove that I am talking about is little Bahamas lol. Looks like they are facing gentrification so I’m not sure what it looks like now. If it’s fixed up or still looks like trash
