Just bought 600 Mbps Internet - can someone explain why I would need 1 Gbps or more?

According to Google, streaming a 4k movie only takes 25mbps.

I've been getting by with 400mbps for a family of 5 and it works just fine. Don't understand why single dudes brag about their 3gbps internet when that's way overkill.

i have 500MBPS and would be fine with 50MBPS. i pay $45/Month.

I have a family of 4 and totally fine with 100mbps. Shit seems blazing compared to the 2mbps i used to get off DSL

The problem is they usually dont offer cheaper options. 300mbs would be fine but they will only offer 500 or 1000mbs for more per month.

Gig internet is pointless atm. It's all marketing. I was the network guy for an IT company for a while and we wired entire apartment buildings 80-120 units on a single gig connection and peak usage was ~300-350mbps.

Pointless for most downloads because you're dependent on anyone serving them is going to do so at gig speeds. The biggest misconception is you want max speed for gaming, but gaming uses little bandwidth. It's much better to leave as much as possible client-side. Latency is more important for internet gaming.

Not to mention unless you get dedicated fiber your gig connection is shared. If you're the only one in your area fine, but in densely subscribed areas you might not always get that, not that you would notice though.
