probably some pluses and minuses either way and it ultimately comes down to the person's outlook on life.
for most men (especially boomers) it's kinda engrained that they must take a wife to have any shot at having a life. they just can't function happily without being "special" to a woman.
the 50+ single men you see that are satisfied with life are usually the ones that can enjoy themselves doing something (even if alone doing it)...like working on/learning about certain types of vehicles they're into, being with the dog, some outdoors/nature type stuff, reading/learning about whatever, etc. in other words they can be engaged in stuff without letting not having a wife be a boat anchor in life.
