People are generally ok, or at least they're tolerable, when things are going normal

The superficial decorum that keeps society functioning

But when things get tough is when people's real selves show

Perfect example of that was peak COVID and how people, even friends and family, turned on each another depending on which side of the narrative they were on

Make no mistake though, you're not that much better even if you think you're above it all

Under the right circumstances you too will turn into a monster

The monster within is only kept at bay because there's enough resources (food, entertainment, hope) to placate it, not to mention the realization of legal consequences

You saw how the monsters were creeping out of people when resources were limited during COVID

So imagine how the monsters would be unleashed if something worse than COVID occurred...completely empty grocery store shelves, entire power grid down

When you realize and accept the true nature of most people is when you become ok with distancing yourself from them and having absolutely no emotional investment in humanity

For it will turn on itself under the right circumstances

No exit was more about the insecurities we project on other people than their own judgements.

Other people and what they think is not the issue.

What we think of other people and what they think of us is the issue.

It’s all internal.
