Internet hate speech 'to be blocked within 24 hours' in the EU

********, Twitter, YouTube and Microsoft have agreed to block illegal hate speech from their European services in less than 24 hours.

The new European Union "code of conduct on illegal online hate speech" states that the four internet companies will review reports of hate speech in less than 24 hours and remove the content or disable access if necessary.

This latest move is in response to a surge in antisemitic, anti-immigrant and pro-Islamic State commentary on social media.

While the companies downplayed the significance of the deal, some experts believe the EU agreement is part of a broad trend toward more government restrictions.

"Other countries will look at this and say, 'this looks like a good idea, let's see what leverage I have to get similar agreements,'" said Daphne Keller, a former associate general at Google.

"Anybody with an interest in getting certain types of content removed is going to find this interesting."

Of course, the moment you say the truth about Jews and refugees, the world enters 1984 mode, meanwhile there are white genocide posts all over the internet, but that is fine and progressive. Reminds me of that recent "racist" detergent commercial, everyone went nuts over Chinese one, but no one batted an eye over Italian one which came before Chinese one. I have seen this coming for years now. The internet is too powerful for the elites to just let people freely use it. We've been in the golden age of the internet since about '06, but unfortunately I don't see it lasting for a whole lot longer. This "hate speech" thing is a way to control what content people put out. The entire internet will be regulated under the guise of safe spaces, protection from hate speech, and the inciting of violence or illegal activity.

I'd be willing to guess that most internet forum users (def most miscers) would post multiple prosecutable statements/shares/pics a day. The threshold is probably vague and open to interpretation. End result of these types of laws is they can pick who to prosecute and don't have to worry about what to prosecute. Pick a person for other reasons and choose from their electronically-stored crimes.

True, not a law, but also not something the companies created. It's an EU agreement they were coerced into signing. Still, I don't use any of that chit so I don't care much but it does set a dangerous precedent and will not be equally enforced.
