- OP is a 24-year old FA, basement-dwelling, rotter with barely any friends, nvm a GF
- OP lives at home with parents and has pretty much all of upstairs 3 bedrooms to himself (sleep, game, guest)
- OP is a consultant and makes 34,950 (~$50,000)
- After tax and student loans and national insurance, OP takes home 25,000 (~$35,000)
- After current car insurance, contribution to bills, holidays, petrol, food, etc OP saves 12-15,000 (~$20,000)
- House prices for GOAT 5-bedroom houses are around 450,000 ($650,000)
- OP cannot afford one without mortgage, nor does he need to buy one coz he will inherit current 5-bed house
- More to the point, OP does not WANT a mortgage, as it's a life-long commitment to 50-hour weeks
- At this rate, OP will never have a wife or kids so literally has nothing to spend his money on for life


So given my situation, and that i'll basically be saving money to do nothing with, what harm is there in me buying a Porsche for my 25th birthday?

Stats of Porsche (15,500):2008 Boxster, 2.7 Litre Sport, 2-door convertible, petrol engine, 30,000 miles on the clock (so quite new), 245 BHP, leather interior, 19 inch alloys, cruise control, sat nav installed, air-conditioning, heated seats, semi-automatic transmission


So basically a year's savings to purchase the car, maybe a month to two months savings to insure it, same to run it, same to maintain it. So in 18 months of work, I can completely pay off a newish black Porsche and use it as my daily driver and even if I have no woman or friends in my life, atleast I can on a PERSONAL level, feel absolutely GOAT behind the wheel!

You obviously don't WANT to buy the car because you're coming to the MISC for advice/validation and you're trying to defend you possibly buying it. If you really wanted to buy it and you didn't care, you would've just bought it already.

There's no point me buying an apartment because everything I could do in my apartment, I can do at home. I don't have many friends, but they can come over and watch movies/play PS4 on my 50 inch TV anyway. Home life is pretty comfortable given that parents have worked hard all their life for it, hence I look after them after work and on weekends.

In order to buy a house, a good one (much better than current parents one), I would have to work minimum 5 years for a deposit, and then i'm in a 25-year mortgage. Do I really want that? Ideally, i'd like to retire by 35, maximum 40, enjoy life until then, have cash saved up and start a small business (like a restaurant or petrol station or news agent or buy a chain franchise) and churn over high-margin cash for little effort hiring students/entry level persons to work in them, while I do the accounts and tax-returns, pay slips, and cost-optimisation from experience as a consultant.

My only chance of getting married is if my parents fix me up an arranged marriage, but that doesn't really happen here in the UK anymore. Most people find their own partners. And I have very little hope, because even if a girl fell for me, I have very few social skills (apart from when super drunk in which case I go full idiot), therefore the relationship wouldn't last.

Also, my parents have worked quite hard all their life to build something for me. I'm not sure i'd want to risk losing half of that if a woman divorced me. Even if I do get married, atleast for the next 5 years, until i'm 30, it won't be any time soon. Hence I could still buy the Porsche and save a decent amount. Or I could save a very good amount and just stick with my 2011 BMW 3 series that parents gifted me as a graduation present (however it has 135K on the clock), and it's a diesel. I really want a petrol that makes an enticing sound when you rev it hard!

Especially considering that you are lined up to inherit your parents house, what will be a somewhat significant purchase in the near future (IE Mortgage) can pay of so fkn much when you have 2 houses to do whatever with, whether that's sell them both, rent them out, sell one, or w/e. Gotta spend money to make money.

If you're parents house isn't paid off by the time you inherit it, good luck paying it off by 40. Especially if you were living at home all that time...all of a sudden you now have an extra $2-5k that you have to spend on their mortgage. If it was paid off...then you also dun goof'd not getting that mortgage, because then you could live somewhere for free and have someone else pay your mortgage off for you.

They've been driven the same, if anything, the 2008 car has been better maintained for several years as it would have only been a weekend car.

I currently drive a 2011 3 series with a lot of miles (135,000) bought from somebody who used to work in medical/pharmaceutical sales and on the road a lot, and the amount it costs in replacing parts because it's been run down is costly. I'm not bothered about age as long as there's low miles, not many previous owners and a full service history!
