The desktop app allows more access vs the mobile app. They know everyone wants to listen to music on their phone without ads, whereas the desktop app is less popular, so that's why you're required to pay for mobile premium access.

I think there is a family account you can purchase and get to play premium on multiple devices simultaneously, for cheaper than paying multiple subscriptions. Do that with your friends... if you have any.
