The dad, 48, was driving daughter Fatima Avelica to another school in the northeast Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park when ICE stopped them. Left behind in the car with her mother, Fatima wept inconsolably as she captured video of her father's detention. Rosary beads hung from the rearview mirror. A palm-frond cross rested on the dashboard.

"I was scared and sad at the same time," Fatima, still holding the cellphone on which she took the video, told CNN Friday. "I never thought I would have to experience something like this in my life ... on my way to school."

Since President Donald Trump's inauguration, scores of unauthorized immigrants have been detained and deported under his administration's hard-line immigration stand.

ICE said in a statement that Avelica was arrested because he has "multiple prior criminal convictions, including a DUI in 2009, as well an outstanding order of removal dating back to 2014."

^I live in CA and someone's getting shot if they break into my apartment. Don't even care if I get in trouble. My chick will back me up in court anyway...I've gone through this in my head a lot...lol.

Anyway, sucks for the little girl but this fuking place is so crowded and expensive that I really don't care. It's a good thing, in fact. Fuking rent and housing keeps appreciating and illegals are a huge part of that problem. Anyone who watches Vice news might've seen the recent episode where they broke down how much illegals contribute to the housing market. It was like 3 trillion. That **** blew my mind. It's funnier because Vice was bringing this up to scare the viewer, as if the loss of illegals could crash the housing market. The only scared people will be those who bought some overvalued crap recently. Everyone else will get a huge break (if those numbers are accurate).

I've heard many accounts from immigrants in Canada, that used to live in America, of immigration services coming to people's houses in the middle of the night, after church, during school, etc... and yes, that used to happen under Obama...

I hope to God it continues at ever increasing and more public rate. All illegals, their offspring and those that helped them need to be deported or imprisoned, maybe both.

Maybe it's the bleeding heart in me, but if that girl has been living here for 13 years, that's not her fault she and neither should her dad and mother be deported just based on humanitarian grounds. Obviously what the dad did wasnt right, but I think the fairest thing would be is for him to pay a hefty fine or be deported after the girl is 18.

I dont know brehs, stuff like this is obviously more than black and white. Note - tightening down borders and stopping illegal immigration is absolutely an important thing, but I think it gets more complicated if they dont have a criminal past / have a family and seem like decent people.

You are part of the problem. You are part of the reason there is 20 million illegal aliens ( at least) in America. Stealing everyday from citizens.

You cannot have sympathy for individuals that break federal law and their offspring which continue the federal crime. Without borders and citizenship what is the point of a "nation" ?
