Met my 3rd Syrian refugee family here in Canada...

And am now looking into sponsoring one (very early on, willing to purchase apartment and support for first 12 months as required possibly longer (with gov subsidies of course). Will seek coworkers and community support as I look into it more for 2018) . I know 2017 applications have stopped but looking into the future.

All 3 families have been great and forever grateful for the opportunity they've been given. The latest one had 2 daughters with injuries from a rocket strike. One family seemed less westernized while the other 2 had kids that speak English and parents learning. Anyways, I know I'll get flack on here but speaking to a family with two daughters (I have a daughter) really hit home. Hard to imagine living somewhere where you watch planes fly overhead all day and wonder which one will drop a bomb and where it will strike, but you have no option to go anywhere to avoid it.

This last family was just a dad and his two little girls. He said it was hard to understand why so many people wanted to help him and his family. Very gracious and seemed like a great dad. I can't comment on that Edmonton case but is there a charge or is this just hearsay? (Not defending, just wondering). I used to live in Edmonton and there is a lot of racism and bigotry so seems plausible this is fake (and plausible that it's real).

This has been an ongoing discussion with coworkers so I guess I was inaccurate when I said I just started looking into it. Without too much info my family has a lot to offer that I didn't realize until I spoke with these families and now that are finally settled financially (and career) and able to start looking into this more seriously.

Intention wasn't to anymously build myself up on a forum. Just wanted to share that I'm a regular guy and if I manage to follow through with this I will share the process with others that are interested.

FYI, I currently hate our provincial liberal leadership but I do like Trudeau as our country's figurehead (let's be serious, that's what he is).
