Man kills neighbor's dog with sledgehammer after it was hit by two cars (RAGING)

Jessie Garcia was out with his family last Sunday when they pulled into the driveway and saw several people standing around their dog. Their beloved pit bull, Beau, was lying on the front porch with blood all around.

“There was blood around her head and her side was mostly skin and flesh,” said Garcia.

Just a few minutes earlier, Beau was hit by two cars trying to cross the road. The dog was able to make it to the front porch before collapsing.

What Garcia would soon find out is that his neighbor, Ivan Lawrence, took a sledgehammer and hit Beau in the back of the head two times after she was run over by the cars.

“That was not his choice," Garcia said. "It’s not his dog."

According to Garcia, another neighbor wanted to take Beau to a nearby veterinarian but Lawrence decided the dog was in extreme pain so he killed her.

Yeah, he shoulda left it there to die on its own, in extreme pain.

If I heard my dog was hit by two cars and in extreme pain, and someone killed it, I'd thank the guy for taking it out of its misery, and I have an extremely spoiled pup.

I could see where the neighbor was coming from as far as putting the dog out of its misery. He probably thought he was doing the right thing in that situation but I honestly don't know how someone could take a sledgehammer to a dogs head. I understand doing that to a small animal on the side of the road that's clinging to life, but someones pet... idk man, that takes some type of person to take it upon themselves to do that.

Yeah it's a tricky situation, it isn't really anyone's call but the owners but I can somewhat justify the guys decision. Worse that can happen is the guy could be liable civilly for the cost of the dog (the sledge guy) since he technically destroyed someone else's property. If the state has companion animal laws it could be worse though.

well, im thinking from the stand point of that I do not know how bad my dog is injured. the guy who put it down isnt a vet. so id be a bit pissed but at the same time, it wouldve probably been something i wouldve done if i came home to my dog being hit multiple times.

if anything, im pissed at the drivers who hit and run my doge.

I once saw a bird at the side of the road whose entire lower body had been crushed, still alive but mortally wounded and clearly in pain. I had nothing else with me (was out walking) so I stomped on it.

I wanted to do the right thing, and I know I did the right thing, but it put some serious miles on my soul.

I can't imagine the kind of person who could kill a dog with a sledgehammer. Jesus.

If the dog was really in a ton of pain and not repairable then it might be ok...just would have preferred it to be with a gun

If the dog was very likely to survive and be ok then fuk that guy

Lot of broken moral compasses on here, based on the number of people that would harm a human because of an act of mercy on a dog.

The guy did the dog a favor - getting hit by two cars is not a recipe for survival. The sledgehammer might sound sensationalistic, but it's consistent with what they used to do with cattle before slaughtering them.

Bottom line, dog is dying on someone else's property, and you want it to suffer while someone attempts to track down an owner who is most likely not equipped to do jack chit? Doesn't make a ton of sense.


It would be different if the guy went to someone else's place and killed the dog there.


Letting your pitbull get out is highly irresponsible in the first place. Thankfully no innocent people were harmed, and hopefully the woman will not be buying another one.

I agreed with him only because a larger dog is technically more capable to hurt someone. I am basing this on physical traits alone, not some assumed predetermined mental state some people think certain dog breeds have

Were you dropped on your head as a child?

Animals run out into the road without regard for what is happening. It's very easy for them to get hit, as attested to all the deer carcasses I see on the side of the road.
