Big game hunter killed in Zimbabwe after elephant falls on him

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/05/prof...m-in-zimbabwe/

A professional big game hunter was reportedly crushed by an elephant while hunting in Zimbabwe.

According to Netwerk24, the hunter was identified as 51-year-old Theunis Botha of South Africa.

Netwerk24 was told by a source that a group of hunters, including Botha, fired on three charging elephant cows on Friday. A fourth cow was said to have lifted Botha with her trunk. And when that elephant was fatally shot by another hunter, it collapsed on Botha.

Botha was a pioneer of Monteira hunting, in which packs of dogs are deployed to chase deer and boar towards hunters. Netwerk24 reported that he recruited wealthy Americans to participate in his hunts.

“Mr. Botha was a highly regarded houndsman and frequently led leopard and lion hunting safaris with his pack of dogs,” the Telegraph reported.

Such a loss......

Not.

One less psychopath who needs to get their hard on from killing a more dominant animal. If not that animal for a trophy, what? Likely humans.

Glad he's dead.

The elephant population used to be so high that people were paid to shoot herds of elephants to control how many of them were around.

Also, many of these fat white dudes who hunt big game pay biiiig $$$$$ that goes towards protecting the rest of the animals. That's how there are so many big game reserves in the first place.

Places that banned trophy hunting have endangered big 5 populations. Places that allow trophy hunting at great expense have robust big 5 populations. It's almost like charging "fat old white guys" 5 figures to kill old, diseased, and/or overaggressive members of the herd while funding reserve maintainance and anti-poaching efforts is a more sustainable model than waiting on the locals to poach them to extinction because they're dirt poor and hungry...

Came in to post this. Elephants are also over-populating most of Africa and are destroying a large amount of the habitat, which does more harm to other species. Elephant hunts are not cheap and the money goes back to the local communities/tribes and keeps the population in check. See:

Vulnerable != endangered and it doesn't change the fact that their population has gotten too big in various countries throughout southern Africa, including South Africa and Zimbabwe. There are measures in place to vasectomize elephants in some countries, but other communities rely on the money brought in by these big game hunts.

By having trophy hunting in general, big money comes in from rich, fat white dudes (generally). This money is then paid to game scouts who go out through the conservancy and stop the poachers from killing everything/anything for husk, meat, etc.
