Do you think that pornography is harmful to society?

I ask because the misc is notoriously conservative and yet, seems to make threads about pornstars on a daily basis.

I would have to go with yes, though I don't think it should be banned. We 100% need to do a better job of keeping it away from children though--and by that I mean people under 18.

In the same way 13 year olds should not be drinking, they should not be watching extreme material they don't fully understand.

Discuss why or why not.

I really don't see it as harmful. Hell, I used to order Playboy on the TV when I was 11 because my parents never put parental controls on anything and I turned out fine. It's the ones that cannot do anything in moderation, lol. Anything in excess will screw you up somehow.

I remember when I was 14. I first searched Lindsey Lohan nude into the msn search engine. After that I kept going down the rabbit hole. Some teenage kid showed me meatspin.com and 2 girls 1 cup etc. Soon I kept thinking that every female on the planet are nothing but whores and cheaters. i think looking at occasional nudes or bikini pics isnt bad in moderation

Yes, it’s harmful. If watched too much there are a few negative effects that result from it. Developing both unrealistic and unhealthy views of both the opposite sex and sex itself, addiction (could possibly start to prefer fapping to sex which is asinine imo), and it is basically training yourself to “finish” too quickly if you fap to pron. (maybe not an issue for the ladies, lol).


Watching it once in a while probably won’t cause any issues but if you can avoid watching it then you probably should.

Imo the availability of pornography makes society value sex less. Since sex was something that connected only husband and wife, and now connects everybody, it devalues marriage. Single parents are very bad for society.

I have no evidence to back up my opinion on sex and marriage other than a study that shows more sex partners meant increased chance of divorce. This study is not related to porn and doesn't prove more sex causes more divorce.

The American conservative mind has a lot more reason to consume it than any other.

As far as any addictive nature involved, you don't suppress something so fundamental as sexuality and not expect repercussions. Westernized (moreso pseudo-Puritan/American) thinking simply hasn't caught up to reality yet. The various social "safety valves" in place now to address that repressed sexuality aren't working. As usual people are more concerned with the symptoms and not the actual problem.
