Sleep paralysis just put the fear of god in me

Holy living PHUCK

It's 7AM right now in Europe, had to make a thread to even cope

4th time I experienced it in my life but this time a little light on the night stand was on so I saw this thing getting in my face, chit felt more real than fukcing reality

the adrenaline rush was so hard I thought my heart was going to explode in my chest srs because it went from normal half awake to 'down the rabbithole' so fast

Similarities on all 4 occasions
-slightly drunk or hungover
-early morning
-half awake and constantly slipping away into short dreams
-ALWAYS starts with the feeling of a cat walking on the blanket (there's no cat in the room)
-once I act on it/try to move it starts
-chit gets crazy

Has anybody else noticed a scheme (don't know if it's the right word, sorry) for them?

Explain more?

had it happen in high school so often I learned how to beat it. Next time it happens remember to start wiggling your toes, eventually theyll start to move and continue that until you can move your foot, you should be able to move your leg and wake up after that

I hate that feeling of screaming and nothing coming out. Mine always starts of me dreaming in that half awake half asleep phase. I am in a parking lot sitting in a car. Some one/thing comes up to me thats when I "wake up" and that thing is in my room and pulls a gun and shoots me. I wake up after I get shot. It has happened a few times over the years.

Dam brah spoopy chit

I get sleep paralysis quite often, usually when I go back to sleep after my morning alarm has gone off, or if it's very cols or if I have one leg out of the blankets on a warm night.

Yes that's what I did, I managed to snap out of it after 15secs but it doesnt end there

Took me 10mins to get my chit together lmao

I think I realise why people used to believe in actual demons and stuff, imagine you experience this as a 18th century peasant with no Internet

It's so real, not 'dream real' but 'real real'

Yeah it's happened to me numerous times and it's always the same thing. It's always a dark image/shadow walking around and then it's up close in my face. It feels like something heavy is pressing down on my upper body or shoulders to the point I can't breathe or move.

Worst feeling ever.

True, I slept that way 3 out of 4 times.

But one time I was lying on my stomach and that was the most physically 'violent' one.

Felt like something was pushing me into the matress or sitting on top of me (no homo srs)

Has happened to me 7-8 times over the years. Feeling of attempted demonic possession, vibrating over the whole body. Attempt to scream and only a whisper comes out.

Ive noticed it happens when my brain is alert but I need to sleep. Like if I have something super important to wake up in time for. A part of brain stays alert to not forget.
Ive never really felt scared through any of the tho for some reason.

Never really believed this stuff until it happened to me. I always thought people exaggerated for some reason. My experience was one of the most terrifying things to ever happen to me.

It happened around 6am around winter time several years ago. My heart was pounding, felt like I was in another world. I was on a grassy hill at night during a thunderstorm. Only thing around was some Victorian style house, 19th century style. Windows were dimly candle lit. I'm walking and walking and walking but not getting anywhere. I start feeling this insane rush, my hearts racing, I'm hot/cold. I'm walking and the lightening flashes and I'm in the middle of a cemetery. I felt a strong demonic presence, and next thing I know something has picked me up and i'm floating 30-40 feet in the air. All of a sudden I had wings and I could fly. At this point I began terrorizing and demonizing random people I see walking around. I'm scaring the crap out of them and I felt a sense of enjoyment all the while feeling rushes around my whole body. Deep down inside my conscious is FREAKING THE FUK out. I just couldn't move, I just couldn't wake up.

I finally snapped out of it and woke up gasping for air. Sweating buckets but cold at the same time. My room was barely being lit up the rising sun and there was an ever so slight daylight coming through the window. I sat up in my bed for a good 3 minutes just scared out of my mind. Walked out the door carefully and proceeded down stairs. I just wanted to make sure I was back in real life. Hope it never happens to me again.

What I've encountered a couple times before that freaks me tf out is waking up to a paralyzed arm. This article described it perfectly, "Waking up in the middle of the night to discover one of your arms has lost all feeling is frightening.
At first, the limb is limp and flops around like a useless bag of bone before coming back to life with a flood of "pins and needles" sensations."

I guess it's considered sleep paralysis according to the article

"So why does it feel paralyzed upon waking?
Dyck suggests two reasons.

1) It is actually, temporarily, paralyzed. During REM sleep, the brain sends a signal to cause a body-wide paralysis. The purpose of this is to keep you from acting out dreams (which occur during REM). But if you wake up during one of these phases, you can be conscious before your fully regain control of your limbs. This is called sleep paralysis, and it can be a frightening situation. You're stuck somewhere in between dreaming and wakefulness, and you can't move.

2) The nerve compression has led to a temporary paralysis (perhaps because you got stuck in a compressed position during REM)."

It has happened to me twice. Both times were after backpacking out in the woods. Both times I was dehydrated and really tired. I saw something like a spider web with shadows coming straight at me and couldn't move. Both times I thought I was keeping it cool and tried to relax but that wasn't the case. My gf woke up both times to me breathing heavily.
It sucked, for some reason it made me feel vulnerable and that wasn't a good feeling.

Thats a Demon feeding off negative energy, thats why they frighten you beforehand by showing themselves, this creates fear that they feed off.

Try to think of yourself inside a giant bubble and think of your happiest moment in your life, that may protect you.

Typically drugs and food -- at the wrong time. That's why I always try and give myself that hour after my last meal before retiring.

I define it as being stuck at the event horizon between sleep and conscientiousness: You brain is taken off-line during sleep and essentially wakes up before the connection to your body is reestablished. The closest most of us will get to that "out of body" experience.

used to wake up quite a bit and it was like my body wouldn't move, so i'd scream.. wouldn't come out and then i'd slowly wake up and scream more until i could finally move

looking back at it it may have been more when i was anxious.. cause i haven't had it in forever

but i have had it different than the aforementioned waking up thing. felt like some exorcist chit. i liken to when i had a panic attack on weed. it was like i was moving fast in my mind but my body was super slow; like accessing some sort of different level of consciousness

the other 2 times were much scarier

I rarely get it...yet I WANT to experience it. The few times i've had it ive never felt the creeping in the bed or the dark shadowy figures or the witch lady and all of those other apparitions. I'm just paralyzed. However sleep paralysis is the perfect segue into ludic dreaming, because you're consciously aware that you're "sleep" and you can immediately jump into a dream and do whatever you want.

Thank god I have never experienced this, sounds truly terrifying. I'm surprised nobody has made a horror movie about this phenomena, it sounds like something straight out of a horror movie.
