Black Panther delivers the goods as an adventure film, a political statement, and a cultural celebration. It shakes off a sluggish start thanks to a memorable cast of characters going up against Marvel’s best-realized villain in almost a decade. Some of the vibrance is drained by cartoonish visual effects that endanger the very human feel of the story, but the emotional weight of its themes and the cast’s compelling performances ultimately keep the film on track. Overall Black Panther is an exciting step forward for the MCU. Long live the king!

Studios will screen a movie for film critics, but embargo anything written about the movie until X date, usually 2-3 days before release.

Just like I expected, reviews are talking about the political statement and cultural impact as opposed to whether or not it's a good movie. Classic case where you shouldn't trust the critics and wait for audience reviews. I think it's gonna be the same thing as with Star Wars TLJ, where SJW:s hyped it to high heavens but normal people thought it was garbage. Hope not though.
Without the internet i feel like a small rock on the mountain.

I don't really want my posts on the internet tbh ... I'm just legit addicted to posting ... people become addicted to the internet look it up

Reviewers saw this movie like a week ago or maybe even more, legally obligated to not post reviews until a certain time before a release date, depending on the contract the movie studio sets up

Most movies/blockbusters these days set their embargo for the tuesday the week before the release that I've noticed, sometimes its like 2 weeks before release, sometimes its a DAY before release like with Justice League

just read the actual reviews and see what they are saying, obviously in today's world many of them will focus on the impact of the movie's concept itself rather than whether or not its actually good

Ha yeah but Tyler Perry has his own way of storytelling which is unique to blacks from the South. he gets heat for it and a lot of his stories aren't my cup of tea but I commend him for it since he helped a lot of black stars (and non-blacks) get their foot in the door and employed a lot of black folks and helped the city of Atlanta.

the following is just my opinion:

Media is the biggest way to have an influence on people - more effective than arguing face to face (because movies are subtle), and less impactful than actually immersing someone in a different lifestyle/viewpoint (but no one ever goes out of their way to experience what the other side sees)

So instead we have to depend on media, which is consumed by everyone and influences them in little ways. Right now when you think of an all black movie, your mind is no doubt going to a few of the classics like Friday or Boyz in the Hood, or if you're thinking more recent, Tyler Perry movies. Movies about being disenfranchised/in the hood and those problems. Not representative of all black people, not even close.

So instead, we finally have an almost all-black movie that's got nothing to do with that ****. A sci-fi/comic book movie that just happens to be set in Africa with black people, instead of some **** like Little Tyrone from down the block using magic to defeat his dead-beat drug dealing (step)father.

Hopefully this will open up the gates for movies where it's different genres with casts who just happen to be black, instead of revolving around being black, how black they are, and how they can use the tropes of whatever genre they are in to overcome being black.

Who is this Black Panter guy anyway? Doesn't seem to be quite the **** considering how long we watch superhero movies and no one knows him.
