Whoever came up with the $10/$20 a month gym membership model is a genius

There's both a Planet Fitness and a smaller time $10 /mo gym near me. Both of them are pretty new to the area, with each having been here about 5 years. Both of them follow basically the same forumla of $10 - $20 /month memberships.

Both of these joints quickly became by far the most popular gyms in my area. They are both constantly packed, especially the one that is more local because they're rules/equipment options are more forgiving towards serious lifters than PF. I can only imagine how many stagnant memberships these places have from people who are too lazy to actually use them, plus they are less likely to drop them after their contracts expire when it's just $10 /month anyway.

Furthermore, I imagine a ton of people get sold on the $20+ versions of the memberships without fully utilizing them due to the gym upselling tactics and the fact that it's still easily $15+ cheaper per month than standardrd memberships. Meanwhile the Anytime Fitness I am at is getting cucked so hard by these places that they aren't even keeping up on their promises to improve their establishment anymore. Fukkers have been promising to add bumper plates for 5+ months to give them a leg up equipment wise and they still haven't followed through.
