I found the Ring super petrifying at age 10, but it was a good movie. Since getting older I tend not to get scared by any. But the IT movie was a good movie in its own right. Not a big fan of B-horrors like the Friday 13th sequels

A Quiet Place set a good formula. Do jumpy atmospheric horrors, not "guy with mask kills people".

The original Poltergeist gave me nightmares for weeks when I was a child.

There hasn't been a movie since that could have that effect of me. Always chasing it though.

nothing really every "scared" me in that i had nightmares afterwards and couldn't sleep, was scared with the lights off hours after watching it,etc

but growing up i watched A TON of horror films, and some of them are just really creepy, werid and get right under your skin:

the exorcist (satanic, ritualistic, the intro scene to the film is just really eerie, off-putting in the best way)

the shining - another eerie film with a strange vibe to it, almost other wordly like a twilight zone short. easily the best stephen king adaptation

IT (original, tim curry made not want to shower at night or skate by sewers in my neighborhood)

RINGU and JU ON - the grudge (Japanese originals, both are such creepy and weird films, way more scary than the US remakes)

Saw the blair witch project when I was really young, scared the life out of me then. Watched it a couple months ago and it was lame I couldnt get through half of it lol

The trailer literally showed any and all possible good scenes from the entire movie. But when they are put into the movie they are terribly lame and boring. The trailer looked so freaking scary. The movie was laughable and horrendous.

Films that scared me foe whatever reason

IT (1990) This is number one the movie/mini-series that has given me more nightmare over the years than ANY other movie or character. Purely down to the menace and look of the legendary Tim Curry as Pennywise. I saw it as a kid, and DAMN was I caught off guard and scared ****less time and time again by that horrific clown. Skarsgard was a decent Pennywise in the 2017 remake, but for me Tim Curry is just THE Pennywise.

The Shining (Kubrick version) - For the increasing feeling of tension as Torrance descends into madness/possession, and the evil nature of the hotel becomes stronger and stronger. That scene when Wendy runs past that hotel room and sees those two guys.......you know the scene.

Event Horizon - From the late 90s, when horror movies were still fairly well made and had a genuine scare factor

Poltergeist 2 - saw this as a kid as well. Quite a lot of strong visual horror here in terms of evil spirits, undead types etc.

The Descent - Strong and impactive UK horror about an all female group of cavers who go deep into an uncharted cave, and meet some unfriendly folk down there. The movie has a real claustrophobic feel to it, along side effective use of tension.

When I was a kid; The omen, Poltergeist, nightmare on elm st(only the first), rosemarys baby, come to mind.
My dad and uncles gave no fuks and let me watch along with them lol.

Nothing made since the 80s has been scary. For me at least. But some have been pretty good. I wanna watch Hereditary next.
