Let's thank feminism, social justice warriors and gender identity politics for this....and Kathleen Kennedy.
http://www.looper.com/126623/disney-...noffs-on-hold/
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, the sky was falling on Disney's Star Wars franchise.
In the wake of Solo: A Star Wars Story's indisputably bad performance at the box office, Disney has put all future "Star Wars Story" spinoffs on hold indefinitely, according to a report by Collider.
In particular, those spinoffs include the previously-announced Boba Fett solo movie from Logan director James Mangold and the all-but-confirmed Obi-Wan movie. Suffice to say, it would seem that all potential Solo sequels are now off the table as well.
The two movies that have been released under the "Star Wars Story" banner thus far are Gareth Edwards' Rogue One and Ron Howard's Solo. Both movies were plagued by major development issues, requiring massive and expensive reshoots and high-profile personnel changes to get the films across the finish line.
According to the Collider report, Disney and Lucasfilm are regrouping to focus more on sticking the landing with their mainline series' Episode IX, and also developing a new Star Wars trilogy with The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.
The companies are also still pursuing a series of films from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as multiple live-action television shows, including one post-Return of the Jedi-set series from Iron Man director Jon Favreau.
The failure of Solo to launch a bold new future for the Star Wars series has left the storied franchise in a curious and unprecedented position of weakness. Could it be that the answer to Disney's woes is to stop making Star Wars prequels, and never do it again? Only time will tell.

Didn't people get upset when they found out Disney bought the rights to the franchise because "they're going to ruin it!" and now people are surprised? y

The only two good movies so far were the spinoffs. I'm out if Rian Johnson is going to direct his own trilogy. He killed Star Wars.

Let's shoehorn irrelevant ideologies into the story!
Do you really think the average movie-goer is not going to see Solo because of some "SJW" and "gender identity politics" ?

Will they blame them again if Episode 9 doesn't do well?

I'd say they were banking on Soylo being successful and popular, so they could crank out a Darth Maul flick. He's always held up his popularity since Ep 1 and his toys still sell. As it is now, we're pretty much going to be left trying to figure out why this fukker is still around after getting sliced in half 50 years earlier.

I'm holding out hope it won't happen though. I expect episode IX to underperform as well and maybe then they will be forced to listen to the fans

Rogue One I actually enjoyed. Solo was okay but not great, and episodes 7 and 8 have kinda sucked. Would love a new director and to take it back to knights of the old republic ages of sith vs jedi though.

just fuking lol...the audience has spoken...watch them put star wars on hold indefinitely as well when nobody goes to see the next one
then they will cave and release the EU as a reimagined trilogy and strike this aborted fetus from the canon. The evil sith Kathleen Kennedy shall be replaced by a righteous jedi who will bring balance to the force and restore hope to the galaxy.

Kinda sucks. All I wanted as a spin off was a Kenobi movie, they just had to go **** it all up like we knew they would.
