I really can't believe how much nurses earn

Certified Nurse Midwife=$105,000
Head nurse=$105,000
Staff Nurse - RN - Occupational Health=$85,000

Source:https://www1.salary.com/Nurse-Salary.html

Never knew nurses earn MORE than most Engineers, Physical therapists , Accountants, professors etc.

Thoughts?

Well if you see how much nurses work compared to others...you'll understand

I'm not putting down other professions...but i've met many accountants, engineers, etc... who complete 1 hour of actual productive work per day and the rest of their shift is simply miscing/killing time (i know that's not the majority, but it's prevalent) ....while as a nurse, you have to be on edge the whole shift.

Not a nurse and got nothing against other professions, but just stating the facts.

They don't make more than engineers.

Cousin just got his masters in engineering, he's making six digits right out of college.

1. Those are high end nursing salaries, way above median.
2. Nurses don't get paid enough.

I think it's generally agreed that demand for nurses outstrips supply, so you can't really argue that they're being paid too much. It's a difficult career that requires a fair amount of education (I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to change IVs, deal with complaining patients, clean patients up, etc. at all hours of the night).

The new hospital that was built in the city I just moved from is offering $ 50,000 signing on bonuses right now.

No. He went right into masters after his bachelors. Never worked for any firm until just now after he graduated with his masters. No experience whatsoever.

For the amount of school, training and literal chit they have to put up with I would say they don't get paid fairly or in most cases not enough.

This, but it's still really good money, very stable job, and easy to find a job with a lot of room for growth with further education. If you aren't an idiot you can move up to $60-70k pretty quick

Used to date a Certified Nurse Midwife that went to grad school at University of Michigan.

She was a catch. I ended things.

Lol. Now I'm making six figures and she probably is too. Could have been power couple.

My sister is an RN in a NICU and makes well over $120k. It’s a great profession if you can handle the stress that comes with it.

When our kids were born, both times the delivery room nurses were doing a whole lot more than the Dr. I know each field within is a little different but it's well deserved imo.

GF is in CT ICU with a lot of experience. I'm also a nurse (but never worked as one), and went right into admin.

She works at least 2x as hard for around 40% of the money.

Hospital shifts are paid as 12H, but she rarely gets out in less than 13. There are additional on-call shifts, where you really can't do anything, but only get paid a fraction of their shift. It sucks, because their additional work yields few if any extra benefits as far as raises or preferential treatment.

In a private company (where I work), nurses with exemplary service get invited to work a cushy 8-4 office job for way more money. Stuff like supervisors, patient care liaisons, etc. This doesn't happen in hospitals. We have a few nurses around the office making 100k+.

Cliffs: You can parlay a nursing degree into a cushy office job, but hospital nurses are actually underpaid (by standard of living/work ratio).

Yeh, Depends on where you live

I'm an RN with 4yrs experience, I make 80k but get like a month of paid vacation a year and 2 weeks of added sick time per yr

A nurse that I work with who is retiring soon told me, don't be surprised if you get to 90-100k pretty quickly (I work for a government hospital)
