The Ford Ranger returns after 8 years

DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford Motor Co. will re-enter the U.S. midsize pickup truck market next spring with the 2019 Ford Ranger. Starts @ 25K

The automaker is set to unveil the new North American version of the Ranger Sunday ahead of the Detroit auto show.

The Ranger was the bestselling small pickup in the U.S. in 2011. But Ford pulled it from the market because gas prices were high and it saw demand dwindling. Now, Ford says there’s rising demand for a smaller, more manoeuvrable and more affordable truck than its massive F-150.

The North American Ranger shares underpinnings with the global version, which Ford has continued to sell abroad. But its frame is reinforced with steel to meet U.S. safety standards and it has steel bumpers.

Not interested but I am interested in Bronco that will be coming in 2020. It will based on this Ranger platform. Let's hope Ford doesn't **** it up and there is some competition for Wrangler.

They really needed to bring it back. The only reason it died in the first place are the way CAFE standards work.

Yes, that and the styling. Hope for large aftermarket support and modularity. Also the size.

Defender, Landcruiser 70's or G-Wagon are the only 'real' offroaders of the last 10 years. Easy to repair, lot's of aftermarket support and lot's of storage (I'm looking at you Wrangler).

I wouldn't get your hopes up quite yet. I have a feeling that they will be a lot bigger than the older rangers. Every damn truck gotta be huge these days smh.

It’s a real truck. The Ranger sits on a fully boxed, high-strength steel frame with six cross members. Suspension components of note include a double A-arm front suspension and monotube front dampers. Traditional leaf springs and shock absorbers help control a solid rear axle. Power steering will be electronically-assisted.

Maybe they think a Ranger Raptor would start to cut into their bread and butter F150's, 250's and 350s.

Who knows, Ranger Raptor would be cool, but at 60k i'm in a superduty mindset. Even if it's just a single/ext cab with 8ft bed, 4x4/diesel.

more than likely the f150 will be getting a new engine with the 'refresh' they do every few years.
expecting it to be either this year or next and they will probably show it around the same time they reveal the gt 500.
