as an indian myself, i didn't give a fukk about apu being a walking stereotype. if anything it was kinda lulzy and interesting to see an indian character on such a big TV show in its prime.

Its perpetuating a negative stereotype.

If you go travel and talk to people you realise that there are alot of ignorant people out there in the west and all of the world that dont go out and associate with people of other ethnicities, so their whole world view is based off what they see on TV. and if TV is perpetuating negative stereotypes, it enforces negative attitudes and Superiority Complex of your own race.

Their should be a fair representation of people, instead of the token character. Not on one show but across the board, Thats why the documentary was made, coz in the 80s and 90s there was only one indian character on mainstream media, which was apu.

What negative stereotype? Having an Indian accent and owning a convenience store? I'm sorry to tell you, but all Indians from India have an Indian accent, and a disproportionate number of convenience stores are owned and operated by Indian immigrants for various social and economic reasons.

If Apu was some idiot saying "bobs and vagene" to every female he came across, then yes, it'd be a negative stereotype. That Apu is the only Indian character people know is more of a problem of lack of representation on mainstream media than the fault of the Simpsons.

Here's a 45 minute argument on why he's not a negative stereotype. The dude pulls more white bitches than any other character in the show, just to name one point. It's just Indians getting offended more than other races, as always. Cletus perpetuates rednecks and yet you don't see southerners complaining.
