Discuss how impressive you consider this older guy's benching to be

So this guy is saying he's benching 500x7 raw. Looks legit enough, though I can't help but also figure in that he looks like he weighs like 350lb. His gut/chest are so massive from that that it reduces his ROM pretty significantly, as well. But, it's still 500lb, so I'm not going to rag too hard about those things.

Furthermore, he says he's 56 in that video. That's impressive lifting regardless of what age someone is. The real kicker for me where I have to start calling bs though is, he claims in the comments on some other video of his that he didn't start lifting until 51, and didn't powerlift until 52, yet is somehow crushing record type benching weight for his age. Then in the title of yet another of his videos uploaded to his channel, he claims to be doing 405x13 raw at 56 years of age, also insisting that he is pure natty.

In short, it's definitely quite impressive. But there's no way a guy starts lifting at 51 and then reps 500 on bench by 56 without some serious, big time bicycling. If that were true, then this guy would had to have been hulk farm boy status before he ever even touched a weight, and could have competed for all-time worldwide records had he started in his prime and rode. The insistence on claiming he did it pure natty status within 5 years while starting 20 years past his prime is just way too much for me to buy. It's kind of a shame though, because I'd find guys like this a lot more respectable if they simply didn't talk about bicycling in the first place rather than going out of their way to try convincing people that they're just mutant strength freaks of nature who didn't need the "supplements" that almost anyone would need to accomplish what they did. Just do your thing and go about your business, no need to exaggerate the claims.

Good call. Glasses are the ultimate form of lifting gear. Adds more poundage simply by putting them on than an experienced user of multi-ply bench shirts.

benching is genetics and or tech

you either have em or you don't

i really don't see the point at impressing yourself on how much heavy weight you can lift for most of your life, only to suffer in pain in your golden years

soon as the pain started for me i switched to bw movements and cardio

who gives a f how much you can lift , in the bigger realm of life , it really amounts to jack sh......................that said, whatever makes you happy

Doesn't matter if he's riding or not, at that age, impressive. Dont care if he recently started or has been lifting his whole life, lifting heavy at that age is quite impressive.

Bet his grandkids don't fuk with him

I don't care what size this guy is, I don't think some of you realize how difficult it is to achieve a 500lb bench for a MAX, let alone reps. We are talking a very small % of the population.

I'm not arguing that it wasn't pretty impressive. But I do think it's worth noting that his ROM is significantly reduced by by his T-rex arms and huge body fat %. He gets to skip the hardest part of the lift (the bottom) as a result. Like I'm supposed to respect that bench in the exact same light as say The Mountain cleanly benching 500+ with relative ease and legit ROM. They're doing different things.

And again, I know even messing with 500 like that is impressive regardless of tech. It just grinds my gears when people make wild claims about celltech. This old fat guy is literally claiming he never lifted until 51, didn't powerlift until 52, and then benched 500 for reps, with a point of insisting that he's celltech free. I don't gjve a crap if someone techs out or not, but they don't need to make wild tall tale claims like that. No fkn way is a fat guy in his 50's hitting that weight with zero prior experience and no cellular technology. Wouldn't even care if he never brought it up and just disregarded the matter, but lying about natty status is weak sauce.

I don't disagree with your second statement at all.
