How much have/has you/your life changed from 20-25-30-35-etc

Title

How differently do you as a person see things now from 5 years ago, from 10 years ago? How many of your core values changed, how have they evolved?
What do you see yourself doing markedly differently now compared to in the past?

How different are you as a person now, and in what ways are you different?

Just note the first few things that come to mind, whether it be to do with hobbies, relationships, work, education, free time, any thing you can think of

I'll rep most of you obviously

For your time:

20 was kind of lame, but partying was peaking here. 25 was awesome, started making good money. 30 is dope, can literally afford to do anything i want as far as travel/hobbies/etc.

15-21 i started the job industry so motivated and unafraid of learning new jobs and working for different companies, whatever the job is. i even worked my ass off for abusive and hostile companies no problem, then came 25 and i can't do that **** anymore. **** abusive people, and now i'm like scared and anxious about working in different job industries, before i was never anxious about anything. i expect it just gets worse.

20 - I was immature and dumb as fukk without knowing it. I was reckless and would do things without ever thinking of the consequences. Dealt with artificial chit like flakey friends and chit.

25 - I actually had money and realized how annoying college aged people were to hang around. Started to mature and take responsibility for any shortcoming I had and figured out ways to move on with my life. Also started cutting out anyone that was flakey or a leach in my life.

30 - Have more money and I am grateful that I took care of myself because all my colleagues that didn't look bloated and withered. I am not reckless with chit now because I actually have chit to lose nowadays.

Most people that think 20 was the best time of there life usually let themselves go physically and/or had a kid or got married to the wrong broad.

In my early 40s and physically my body just doesn't take any mess from me. A big night out means a hangover lasting for days and exercise hits hard.

The positive from this is that I like to 'earn' the aforementioned hangover, so I only really drink now if there's a good reason to. In terms of the gym it's made me respect technique and form like nothing else.

From my experience, and those of others, I find making new friendships more laborious, though it might be me being a old sod. I suppose I'm less wayward and more focused on what I do.

Behind all of this is just how different everything is now from when I was in my 20s. It's tricky to track how I might encounter life now if I were younger. Though social media was present it was no way as knitted into everything. I remember seeing a mate on Tuesday and saying "see you at the pub on Friday". We'd catch up with no interaction other than that, no ******** updates or WhatsApp etc. It was certainly less complex but then perhaps if I was 20 now I wouldn't see it that way!

Good question btw. Apols for the wall of text.

I forget where I heard it but at one point when I was in my teens an older guy told me "If you cant look back on your life 5 years ago and say 'wow I was an idiot', youre not growing as a person."

Im now 36 and can honestly say this is totally true. Mostly has to do with realizing things you thought mattered dont, and things you didnt care about actually matter.

EDIT: also yes, things get hurt easier and for longer and it sucks.

From 18-22 was a period of me sorting out what I wanted to do. 22-30 was a period of equipping myself to do it. Looking back, there isn't much I would change because I know I would make the same mistakes again if I was at the same maturity level so there's no point in dwelling on it. But coming up in the years after Sept 11 were a motherfukker. The boomers were in denial, the greatest gen were on their way out, and the young didn't have a voice, not that we would have much useful to say -- we were just the canary in the coal mine. That taught me to never trust things at face value because that's just the sales pitch you're seeing.

Luckily I ended up with no student debt and a grad STEM degree but it has taken longer to work through than nearly all of my peers that financed and started younger. Yet, somehow I can't shake this feeling that we've been sold this "you are your job" bucket-o-crabs bs that the millenials have forgotten how to fight. I don't know how someone justifies 80k debt for 60k/yr job. Overall, I'd say my skepticism is only growing as I get older but I know I will have to temper it in order to provide a feasible path forward for my children.

Literally this but went through each phase around 3 years earlier. Was financially supporting my parents/ family since I was 17. Worked 6 days per week for a couple years until we were back on our feet and in that time I did a lot of growing up. People my age seemed so oblivious to whats really important, lulled into a false sense of security and complained about the most inconsequential chit.

I'm 25 now and can't say I'm much different from when I was 20. On the brink of being completely independent (parents are relatively stable now). One of the biggest differences however is what I look for in a relationship. I used to be content with any HBB. Now my standards are so high and my patience so thin that nobody really cuts it for me. The slightest sign that a woman is unforgivably stupid with her money or has no street smarts and I instantly cut off because I know where that leads... back to financial trouble, back to stress and anxiety. Something I'm working on.

20-no idea what I was really doing with my life, but in school trying to figure things out

25-my mid 20's overall were just an absolute mess if I can perfectly honest. It was me getting through a bunch of problems physically, financially, and mentally

29 (close to 30)-finally have alot of things sorted out from my earlier years. i went through a bunch of bs but it made me a much stronger person. I can honestly say that I am just now living life, well the life I always envisioned myself living. At 29 years old. It is never too late to make a change for the better boyos.

From what I remember;

20-24 = awkward as fuk
25-27 = finding myself / becoming more socialable
30 = comfortable in my skin
34 = feeling all right, enjoying life, confident, walk with a sense of pride

Definitely matured since 20 was involved with all sorts of shady **** and have seen pretty much everyone involved's lives get completely ruined.

Still a total idiot though now I just make enough money that I can get away with it.

42 is better than 12, 22, or 32.

When I was 12 I had an overbite that was fixed with braces at 15.
When I was 22 I had no job and living at home
When I was 32 I was working; but lived in a crappy apartment...

Now I own a home...so yeah.

Tinder/Bumble/Hinge matches suck after 30. Now I have to go meet girls at bars like the olden days.

But really, it's awesome. Drive an awesome car I love, work my dream job, live by the beach, have plenty of savings, take a vacation once a month, misc whenever I want das it.

you basically never stop cringing at your younger self every few years or so

i.e. at 20 you cringe at your 18 year old self
at 22 at your 20 self, etc.

20 - put my teenage delinquency behind me, went to juco for a year, and started college, started lifting

25 - Living in Chicago, starting my career, boozing hard and having fun, lifting after work

30 - Married, moved to the suburbs bought my first house, career slowly progressing, quit lifting cuz the wife wanted more time with me

35 - Had 2 kids, graduated from grad school, career progressing rapidly, upgraded my house to 2x sq footage in nicer suburb (dat top tier school district for the kids), getting fat

40 - Divorced, bought smaller house in nicer neighborhood, working out again, back in decent shape, started dating again, friends rarely go out at this age, spending time with kids is more important now, career progressing slowly again

I'll be 44 in a week, and things are about the same as 40 in term of my social life and what's important to me - I'm fairly close to reaching my career goal to be a CFO now though - I'm corporate controller at a mid size company with a growing national footprint and there is no CFO, I report to the CEO and handle all the financial functions of the organization, and still find time to misc
