A teacher beat up a student who called him the n-word. Now he’s a $135,000 GoFundMe hero.

A racial taunt turned a California classroom into the site of a brawl between two unlikely participants last week: a 64-year-old music teacher and a 14-year-old student. Days later, thousands of supporters have flooded a GoFundMe account, raising more than $135,000.

The altercation began at Maywood Academy High School when Marston Riley asked a male student, who was improperly dressed and in violation of the school uniform rules, to leave the room, the Sacramento Bee reported. A cellphone video shows the teenager refusing, then throwing a basketball at the teacher, who is black, and saying, “Why you wisecracking, my n-----?”

The student was taken to a hospital. Riley was arrested on child-abuse charges by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau Friday.

Cecilia Diaz Jimenez, a former colleague and current school district employee, quickly launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Riley’s legal fees, writing: “He is going to need all the help he can get. Be mindful that the school district is looking at dismissing him and I would not doubt if the student’s parents are looking into pressing criminal charges. I am sure Mr. Riley will need money to pay any fines, fees and lawyers.”

In four days, the campaign surpassed $135,000, far more than its $50,000 goal

Having been in poor areas and dealt with poor students, I hope I wouldn't do it but I definitely understand. Those kids push and push and push. Nobody in their life either to keep them in line.

Not saying it was justified but think people don't understand what these schools and these kids are like.

Misc you disgust me sometimes, you are happy that a 14 years old got beat up gangster-style in school because he was talking sh!t?

That teacher did not smack him once (that would have been justified) but continued to hit him probably the way he used to when he was in a gang before cleaning up and becoming a teacher.

Either way teacher will rot in jail with 135k or without.

poor teachers. Constantly harassed and pushed to the edge all the time. And people wonder why teachers do not want to teach in troubled areas, the kids show no respect and cause mental and physical anguish.

I'm sure the kid pushed him to the edge, but he still chose to go over. He swung first at a 14 year old who wasn't even guarding himself. By chance he didn't connect well enough to knock the kid out or do any real damage. I don't want to call it a sucker punch but come on now.

I'm not sure why anyone feels bad for him. I had plenty of little *******s like that in my classes growing up and never saw a teacher swing on a kid first. Kids a ******* but dude you're an adult and a teacher. Be the bigger man.

Never seen a kid come close to doing that to a teacher (I also didn't go to a poverty school).
