Official MISC Credit Card Thread (Advice, Churning, Referrals, Offers)
In an effort to consolidate the general credit card questions on the MISC I've decided to make a thread on this subject. This can encompass churning, increasing your credit score, discussion on your financial goals with your credit card, hot offers, sharing referrals, etc. This is a work in progress so suggestions appreciated.
Questions to ask when choosing a credit card.
- What is your goal of choosing a credit card? To increase your credit score, building credit, rewards, emergencies? I have one card for car expenses that offers me 0% interest if I pay off the card within 6 months. That is my car emergency card.
- If you want a credit card for rewards, what are your credit card reward goals? Travel points, cash back?
- What is your credit score?
- Do you intend (or think you might) carry a balance?
- Do you do domestic travel? International? Both?
- What cards do you have now?

Churning
-https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/
You are able to get a FREE credit report once a year from all US creditors (Equifax, Experian, Transunion) and dispute your credit just. The above are generally free as well.
Simple ways on increasing your credit score.
- PAY YOUR BILLS ON TIME
- Keep your credit utilization ratio low.
- Avoid applying for too many new credit cards within a short period of time.
- Avoid closing credit card accounts, unless you’re not using them and they charge an annual fee.
- Check each of your credit reports regularly for inaccurate information. If you find an inaccuracy, dispute it as soon as you can.
The most common credit cards you will hear on the MISC people have are generally the following:
- Chase Freedom (including Unlimited)
- Chase Sapphire (preferred and Reserve)
- American Express Platinum
I've seen some others mention Discover IT and Citibank stuff but I believe most people on here are financially well off and are interest in churning more. Feel free to share referrals as well.
Chase Sapphire Preferred Referral - https://www.referyourchasecard.com/6/CEBV9QEGAR
I have a Chase Freedom but I think the referral is only for their Unlimited now. Please provide some suggestions.

Everyone should have at least 3 credit cards and keep them <30% with on time payments for maximum credit gainz. Srs
Lol at the nocreditcels who think they are doing something noble and money-wise but are really just being foolish and not building their credit. LMAO @ cash.

If you are no longer using a credit card that has an annual fee, you may be able to "downgrade" to a card with no annual fee if you call the bank and ask. This will help keep your credit score high!

815 or so last time I checked. I apply for credit cards based on their rewards.
Case in point, got the new Venture in the mail, brb 75,000 miles rewards if spending 5k in 3 months. Srs. It’s a new offer that I will use up until a better one comes along.

I got the Citi Premier Thank you card (https://thepointsguy.com/news/citi-t...urrent-offers/) I was approved on Oct 1st and started spending as soon as I got the card. I'm already well over the $4k mark and have paid it. So I know they ended the promotion on oct 11th. I should still qualify for that 60k points bonus correct? If anybody here has been in this situation or know?

I accidently didn't pay a credit card a few years ago after the credit company merged with someone else and gave me a new card with new number. Apparently I had a small balance on it and didn't realise the old balance was automatically transfered to the new card which I didn't pay until I realised what happened and it was too late. I thought notices in the mail were spam but were real. Anyway that dinged my credit pretty hard. I'm sitting at 776 or so now but probably could be 800+. Am I screwed or do I have options to fix this?

Not necessarily card related, but would paying of a charged off account positively affect my score? I have a few that are fairly low in cost that I want to get rid of so that I can climb.

I briefly talked with a credit repair guy for free. He said try calling to pay for delete. I called ATT U-Verse on a $350 charge and they refused to budge. I forgot to return equipment when I moved.

In. Sitting at an 806 credit score.
Currently have an Amazon Prime card through Chase and a Capital One Quicksilver card.
The Amazon card gives 2% cash back on restaurants (which includes most bars!), pharmacies, and gas stations, and 5% back on Amazon purchases. So obviously I use this one for everything through Amazon, but also any time I'm dining out or filling up the car. The Quicksilver card was my first rewards card and is 1.5% back on everything, so that's my main card that I use everywhere else and where all my auto pay bills are set up to go through.
