I just heard on the radio about a vote going down on the prime minister, but that’s the most I heard about it in awhile on this side of the globe

I travel to the UK regularly on business and from my experience the UK is ridiculously divided over the subject and there doesnt appear to be middle ground. The media makes it out that the Brexit vote was a goof by the hill billys. My experience is that its really 50/50 and that includes my experience in London.

I dont understand UK politics enough to understand how the people can vote on a topic and then the government can basically overrule it. If I was a citizen I would be outraged (even if I opposed the Brexit). It seems to me the people dont actually have a voice or at a minimum their voice/vote dont matter...

Would genuinely like for a UK bro to explain how this happens because I cant seem to get an answer from the reading I've done.

Basically the media/government want to remain in the EU and ignore the vote that we had. Our PM says that she is committed to Brexit (despite campaigning to remain in the EU before the vote), but it's pretty clear she is trying to sabotage it.

Imagine if in the USA you had a referendum on the second amendment, a majority of people voted to keep it as it is, but then the government said 'but muh safety' and decided to change it anyway.

I reckon we should just make an Anglo-Saxon superstate of Trump voters, Brexit voters and cool Aussies and South Africans. Would be the world's greatest country with loads of LOLZ.

You're right about the UK being very divided over the issue. Even those that agree on leaving don't agree on how we should leave the EU and in all honesty I think most don't even know what details they really want from an exit deal beyond the most basic requirement of leaving the EU. This is why this deal or any deal will never get through parliament the idea the UK can negotiate a deal that can be agreed upon is a pipe dream.

The government are not over ruling the decision of the referendum to leave, the Tory government under May have been working towards that to ensure a Brexit deal. What they are reluctant to do is to crash out of the EU without a deal that would leave the country in a period of huge uncertainty being forced to work and trade under WTO rules with no trade deals with any other countries in place. This of course means getting a deal through Parliament but that isn't possible, so she's left with no real options but bad ones and so she's delaying the inevitable.

As for how this happened, May made a huge error in calling a general election when she did. Instead of giving her the mandate to push through whatever deal she came up with what it in reality did was leave her at the whim of the DUP. Without the DUP along with her own party she doesn't have majority to force any deal through. The DUP rightly are not going to change their mind due to the issue with the Northern Ireland border.

Nobody is happy with the outcome of the Brexit negotiations. We are clearly seeing our political establishment fail us at all levels and it's not just the Tory's. Labour have looked woefully inept with no realistic alternative or solution out of this mess. Their idea of "a customs union" instead of "the custom union" is transparent in it's sheer lack of credibility. Labour says this deal is terrible and that there is no better deal to be made, but if they are in power they can somehow get a better deal, utter nonsense.

UK should invade Europe.
We'd roll over the French and the Germans. We can stop before we hit Eastern Europe though...

From what I understand the brexit deal made by May was one of the worst possible deals, it changes the UK from a member state to a vassal state with less power, no control over its own borders etc

In Western Europe, only France is capable of any sort of military resistance against us, but soon enough they'll be fighting each other so that won't be any worry at all. The Germans will line the streets to wave through our Royal Marines, being thankful for their liberation from Merkel.

In any case, it will make it easier to get Poles to come and work in the new Empire.
