Do degrees like Psychology lead to a decent job market and relevant job titles? (srs)

Was wondering this as everyone seems to be portraying it as a meme degree to a very over-subscribed market ?

I used to think that demand for psychologists (therapy) and in research is there but more and more of people I know who did that do not work anything related to that besides from Human Resources which is not really that connected.

Doubt it. Might become a social worker or something similar and make a whopping 40k/yr because of it

The social sciences require much less quantitative reasoning abilities than the natural sciences. You just need to know algebra and how to work statistical software at a very elementary level eg R, Stata, spss.

Psychology probably requires the least amount of quantitative reasoning abilities of the social sciences, hence popularity with people who have no intention of using the degree, but aren’t smart enough for the natural sciences and think the humanities degrees are less employable than any social science.

It's what you make of it. Probably one of the worst degrees to just "have" but being in school allows you to get internships, co-ops, assistant positions and the such. Be proactive in making use of it, don't graduate with a 3.0 GPA and expect anyone to care.

Oh the question never was whether or not you can put yourself in marketing/business roles that do not require specific degrees if you apply and etc. That is for sure. We talking about related to the degree purely like Electrical Engineering gets you into jobs as an engineer in a tangible market.

Nope. People who do well with a psychology degree are the exception, not the rule, and in those cases it’s usually due to the person themselves, not the degree.

You need to get multiple advanced degrees for psych to lead to anything normal.

It's something you have to be passionate about, it's not like a money degree where you go to work and make big bucks without much effort.

In addition, if you're going to get good at it, you need a LOT of real life experience. It's not some kind of technical job where you learn how to work a computer, and that's just how it works, and works the same everywhere. You have to learn psychology and then actually see how what you learned applies to real life. So, it's like you learned how a computer works and then apply that knowledge to a pound of bacon.

There's lots of failure and twisted weirdness in psych too. That will either be the coolest thing ever, or you will hate people and get depressed.

Haha!

Psychologists are heavily employed by the military, etc to stop people from going crazy in such situations.

In WWII almost NO ONE shot their weapons on D Day and later the military employed psychologists to figure out the problem.

Going to the moon turned out to be pretty irrelevant anyway, lol. They even lost the plans how to do it.

You say stuff that are truthful, however it seems the demand for its practical use (actual therapy, consumer behaviour analysis in corporations, basically similar as the military example you gave) is very low. And most people, despite desire, end up into something completely different.

depends on how motivated you are. actually being a psychologist? not really likely you'll have a lucrative career

however, I know people who were psych majors that are software engineers at their jobs just because they know how to code.

As mentioned earlier, it is a well known fact that there are tons of jobs that do not require a specific entry-level degree and that you can apply and get them with a Pysch major. It is not what is being discussed.

Just lol at this garbage. Your "psychology" has been around for about 100 years give or take, and the results from this field suggest that we still don't understand the actual SCIENCE behind how the brain works. I have no need for unfalsifiable crap theories......give me real science. NEXT.
