There's a video on this i saw. It was all over ********. Except the dude in the video was recording random chit and he was saying he wasn't on government property but public property. There were like 10 cops that rolled up. He got away. Because he didn't do chit.

depends on the state largely to my knowledge

i think the bulk of states have "stop and identify" laws where you have to produce ID if a cop asks, but a fair amount you're allowed to walk away unless they have reasonable suspicion that you're involved in something ie what you're wearing matching a suspect or something

Lawyer checking in. Serious answer is no. They have to have "reasonable suspicion" to stop you or even ask to see your ID.

But if for whatever reason he does have reasonable suspicion and he orders you to stop, them you'll be committing a crime if you disobey the lawful order.

So what do you do? You stop and ask if you're free to leave. If he says no, then you can lawyer up later and file a lawsuit if you want. Anything else you do might land you in jail.

Sorry pal. Those laws are unconstitutional if enforced. No state law overcomes the Fourth Amendment's reasonable suspicion requirement for an investigatory detention.

According to the Constitution, yes, you have the right to walk away. But that doesn't prevent the cops from chasing you down and beating your ass before they handcuff you and throw you in the back of a cruiser.

Why the need to act like a ******* if he just wants to talk to you? Maybe he wants to know if you saw a little kid that’s gone missing... or if you noticed anything suspicious in the area.

Little off topic, but similar, my friend who is a state trooper and other a city cop both told me that if you are a passenger of a car and a cop pulls the car over for what ever reason everyone in the car can literally get out and start running away because only the driver is detained.

Idk but I know in Florida you can be arrested for resisting arrest as the only charge.


Don't do anything to piss off cops that have a chip on their shoulder. Just ask them what they want and do whatever you can to make the interaction as short as possible and easy for everyone involved. ( kind of like rape logic, "don't resist and don't fight back so it all goes smoother
