If this encourages fat people to lose weight then I'm here for it... I guess, somewhat reluctantly, I can't imagine those clothes being flattering on a fatty. The funny thing is though, the overweight people who complain athletic brands like Nike don't represent all body types, the overwhelming majority of them have no intention of buying these clothes and getting into shape, they just want something to whine about.

One thing of note, is why the slim mannequin is in a neutral pose, while the fat one is in a provocative pose. Overcompensating? Cognitive influence?

It depends on how you look at it.

On one hand, you could say it is insidiously political and promoting unhealthy ideals or on the other hand, it could be a purely commercial thing whereby there are more out of shape people than there are fit people and so, targeting the largest markets means more revenue and more profit...

Sportswear companies increasingly seem to think that the world should aspire to look like they're from an LA ghetto. When I go and browse their websites the models look like they're thinking about mugging me. I'm not sure what they're meant to be selling.

Except I feel like I'm seeing more and more fatties wearing yoga pants/athletic clothing doing non-athletic activities. I think they just buy the clothing to make them feel like they are being athletic when they are not.
