I'm fascinated with Nazi Germany because it's ridiculously fascinating. srs. Hitler rose out of no where to be the most influential person in the history of the world. In the matter of ten years, a small group of people threw the entire world into the biggest war it has ever seen causing the death of hundreds of millions of people. And only a few years later, they were gone and the world was changed for ever. Looking back at history, the turning point of civilization will be WW2.

Plus, the way he captivated and controlled a nation, committed heinous crimes and shaped the world for years to come is interesting. It truly is one of, if nos the most fascinating points of history to study.

Hard to say, but possibly because Nazi germany was the cause of WW2 where lots of stuff happened everywhere in the world at the same time, tons of people died and majority of humanity was affected by it in a significant way for decades to come.

Hitler was an closeted impotent drug addict, an art ****, an art **** would couldn't hack art **** school, a manlet, a vegetarian...pretty much a cookie cutter. He'd be wearing a Marilyn Manson shirt, fingerless gloves and mascara while sporting a pasty white complexion as he smoked clove cigarettes by the dumpster if he were a youth today.

Everything about it is fascinating. How it all started, Hitler youth camps, ghettos, the war and the Holocaust of course, how planned, systematic, and organized the whole thing was.
Then comes the aftermath, what happened to Jews after the war, what happened to Germany, Nuremberg trials...the list goes on and on...
It all seems so surreal that when you watch some fictional shows like Handmaids Tale, it doesn't seem at all far fetched.

who gives a fuk about hitler.
germany was interesting because of the machines.

not to mention the hundreds of design ideas that created aviation and space travel as we know it.
had Germany had the resources, fuel, exotic metals etc to build their advanced aircraft in numbers they would have been unstoppable

It's fascinating because a small country that had been defeated and impoverished turned into a superpower within just two decades. I think that if they hadn't gone to war and instead focused on more industrialization and advancement they'd be a superpower right now. Probably have the first space program and nuclear power.
Finally green! Green green greeeeeeeeen!

Because it was such a radical regime that commanded a major world power.
Death, industry, warfare, and politics compacted into a chaotic 10-20 years of German history.

Although a similar # of people died in total, the majority of Russian prisoners survived, and were eventually released. The deaths in the Soviet system were primarily due to war time privations (after the war the death rate in gulags fell to 1-2%) and the camps were primarily for labor/economic exploitation (they contributed 1/3 of the Soviet economy at a point) - whereas in the German case camps were clearly used as a tool of racial cleansing/ genocide as the war dragged on.
The prisoners in both lived under similarly awful conditions.
You're right about the parallels between the two, and it's hard to argue what is "worse" when comparing two murderous regimes, but the differences should be noted. Also any society can do this under the right circumstances.

Also Model got a bad rep but on a tactical level he was better than Rommel imho.
Rommel was good but the NSDAP is partly responsible of his reputation as they used his image a lot in propaganda. Oddly enough afterwards he was used to promote the image of a clean wehrmacht (not saying he committed war crimes by saying oddly but just that he was used both by the nazi regime and afterwards by the wehrmacht to distance themselves from the regime which is a bit odd/ironic).
In that regards he is a bit overrated but not to the level of Peiper, can't wrap my mind how some people can talk about him as a genius tactician.
as for op question : Empire and wars/battles have always been interestating to study cause you study the tactics of military geniuses, the new development of tactics, etc.
