Anybody here Door Dash? I'm thinking of doing it on the weekends and maybe a few hours during the week to help pay off all of the gym equipment I bought converting my garage into my pandemic gym.

do u have to talk to other humans door dashing? can i just rot and listen to music the whole time or no in other words.

So I went ahead and signed up. Did my first dashing session on Sunday during the lunch time peak hours. Made $70 working from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. Wasn't too bad. Granted, that included some dude handing me a $20 as a tip. So, I actually made $50 from Door Dash itself. Still can't complain.

I neglected to record the mileage of my car when I went "on duty". But seeing as how I can go 35 miles for about $2 in my car, the gas cost probably doesn't eat too much into my earnings for the day. I'll keep better track of that next time, though.

$70 for a few hours work ain't too shabby. Still only a fraction of what I make at the day job. And I can't see me living off door dashing ... that's a hell of a lot of deliveries I'd need to make. But as a way to make some extra cash when I got nothing better to do, it's pretty awesome. Think Imma go buy that chest supported t-bar row machine I've been eyeballing from Titan Fitness now!

It's mostly just spending money I'd assume. I was thinking about getting a part time gig as a bouncer when I'm off my day job for some extra cash. I've ordered door dash a few times when I did not have the time to make food and then hit the gym. My neighbors though use door dash like every single day, it's insane.

How does it work? Is it like an Uber where you are given and order and have to accept it? I always wondered how it worked, and then with the whole cellphone relocation thing.

As someone who orders from doordash they do a relatively good job but 10% of my orders get screwed somehow.

Dashers will leave the order at the wrong house, sit around for 15 minutes at a gas station, or other chit that just makes my food cold or doesn't even show up.

First thing you gotta do is sign up to be a dasher (of course). However, it'll only let you sign up for the zip code you put in when you first made your account. If there's too many dashers in that zip code, you get put on a waiting list. My wife just happened to try signing up one random day and noticed that they were accepting dashers in our zip code again and told me I should go sign up. The funny part is that right after I signed myself up, she went to go sign up and they were no longer accepting dashers for our zip code again.

You're not limited to dashing only in your zip code, though. You can go dashing any where. Which makes limiting you to signing up only for the zip code you initially used pretty stupid.

Once you're all signed up, you just hit the "dash" button on the app, and you'll start getting orders. You have the option to either accept or decline. According to a dasher on YouTube, declining orders doesn't affect you in any way. So she recommended being picky as to what orders you'll accept ... like if you'll know the order will be a big order so you might get a nice tip.

You'll only get orders for restaurants in your immediate area. If you look on the map in the app, it'll tell you what areas are busy so you have the option to drive to those areas so you can make more money.

When I went dashing for the first time last Sunday, I went during peak hours. The app will tell you what hours are peak hours. I was literally getting dash after dash the moment I went "on duty". I had to decline some orders because I didn't want to feel overwhelmed my first time out. I wasn't trying to get stressed out from this job. I get enough of that from the day job.

It's definitely something to do to make some extra cash in a pinch. I can't see how you'd be able to live off dashing alone. The gas and the amount of wear and tear on your vehicle has gotta add up at some point, ultimately taking a large chunk out of your earnings.

So today marks the end of the first month of me dashing “for real”. I set a goal of making $800, and as of yesterday I’m just $30 shy of reaching that goal. I’ll probably dash today during lunch time or something to make that $30. The nice thing about being able to work from home with my “day job” is that I can go dashing and make money from that while at the same time still technically getting paid to do my day job. Not a bad gig.

The only majorly negative experience I’ve had so far actually happened yesterday. The damn app sent me to the wrong friggin restaurant! By the time I realized what happened, it was way too late to try and drive over to the correct one and still try and make the delivery. If I had tried, the order would’ve been super late and the customer might neg me for being so late. I had to unassign myself from the order. At least that way I don’t get a neg rating from the customer. But it’s still bad; it counts towards your “incomplete delivery” count and if you get too many of those, you risk deactivation. I’m also trying to make “too dasher”, and all of your ratings need to be in the green for that. Everything except “acceptance rating” which is how often you accept orders. Apparently that rating has no affect on anything and you can be in the single digit percentage for that and still be a top dasher as long as everything else is green.

I think I’ll aim for $1000 for the month of August. Tho I think trying to aim higher than that will cause too much stress and make the gig feel more like an actual job as opposed to being just a side hustle. Even tho it’s a pretty easy gig, you’d be surprised how tiring it can sometimes be.

If I can consistently make $1k a month, that’s an extra $12k a year. Can’t really complain about that.

Why not, if you have the time its an easy to way to make money and you can chill listening to music in your car. The only real downside is the wear and tear on your car and if you aint worried about that then chase that paper boo.

I DDed for about a year, its okay, nothing special, was doing it part time, most i made was like $96 in 5 hours i think (superbowl sunday)

35 miles is a $18.55 write off and at an effective tax rate of 21% you just lost out on $3.90 bucko.

I guess it really depends on where you live. Out of the 121 deliveries I've made so far, I've only had one customer not tip. The payout for that delivery was still $8, though. I dunno why.

I tend to also dash in a "higher end" area. Lots of rich people.

When I first started dashing, I accepted all offers. Then I started watching Youtube videos on dashing saying to not accept offers lower than X amount. For me, I set my lower limit to $6. Now I consistently make $8 to $12 per dash. I think they said it's something to do with the algorithm DoorDash uses on whether to send you an order or not.

But yeah, if you wanna make a living at DD you'll be busting your ass like any low wage, low skill, job. It's definitely not something you'd wanna do full time. At least, I wouldn't wanna do it full time. But as a side hustle, it's pretty awesome. You can go dashing almost whenever you want for how long you want.

It really helps to have the right kind of car too. I dash in a 2015 Mazda 3. I can get almost 40mpg in that thing and it's not even a hybrid. One time I saw this one dude dashing in a big ass pickup truck and I just shook my head.

Yea you do if you make more than (I think) $600.

Not bad. Over $30 an hour. Had a few cash tips too. Could have done better but I spent the first two hours running chit orders across town. Didn't know you could skip them without getting in trouble. Even got stuck with a crappy grocery delivery. Made $50 in one hour just sitting at a hot McDonalds. Got 4x 10$ orders in a row and a $10 bonus. Only done 15 miles. Neat app if you have a couple spare hours. Wouldn't quit my day job though.

Yea Acceptance Rate apparently doesn't affect you at all. Apparently, you can have single digit Acceptance Rate percentage and still be considered a Top Dasher as long as everything else is in the green.
