Can we talk about how it's essentially required to have social media these days?

Fuking sucks. I deactivated my ******** and instagram this last week because i've gotten tired of political banner wavers throwing chit at their opposition. I just got tired of putting that chit in my brain every day.

That said, economy is starting to open up and i'm trying to make appointments for teeth cleanings, mma gyms, massages etc. Everyone's website looks like it's hosted on fuking geocities or angelfire. I've emailed two places and gotten e-mails bounced back due to the address "not existing". Get on the phone with *******s and it's "oh... most people just message us on ******** or send a dm"

Restaurants aren't doing status updates on their websites either. If you want to reserve a rooftop patio in my city you either have to follow them "on the gram" or be at the mercy of first come first serve.

I just have a burner face book that's not real or added any people just so I can use it for adding the odd person on a mobile game. Like 8 ball pool lol

Then finally made an IG last year also for online dating so people can screen me and DM me and vice versa.

It’s actually really helpful because everyone is on IG now and you can tell a lot about people from their posts. Makes it much easier to screen for normal social well adjusted happy people vs weirdos and loners etc.

Plus it gives you an easy excuse to DM someone to comment on a post or story. Online approaching is very easy and low risk.

Have never had a ******** acct and when I was in the dating pool it's almost taken as a red flag if you don't. I had one woman tell me that it's suspicious if a guy doesn't have a ******** profile.

Misc is legit my only social media. I used to read comments (never posted thougb) on Yahoo news articles during the impeachment because it was fuggin hilarious. Now everything is just depressing.... Don't even click "news" articles anymore. Feels bad man.

If it's mandatory for me to use social media to contact a business, that business won't be getting any of my money. Unlike most of those in their teens and 20's, I'm not scared to pick up the phone and call someone and actually speak to them.

Never had social media. I have friends irl that I communicate with daily. I don’t care about the lives of celebrities or what car someone I knew in high school just bought. Lame as fuk.

IDK FB has been pretty freaking useful when it comes to contacting businesses.

I had a run in with Ohio's Permit's dept for one of my clients (apparently their over sized over weight permits dept is 1 lady who was SUUUUUPER B1TCHY who was on vacation and basically said (this guy is a trucker) he had to wait on the side of the road until she went through and approved his permit whenever she gets to it - we submitted this thing a week ago to make sure he wouldn't be stuck at the border or get fined and he had already been there for 2 days!! along with other guys! 2 FREAKING DAYS!!) and I flipped out on them (in a very professional manner) on FB messenger to their OHIO DOT fb page. They issued his permit within the hour and he was on his way.

With all the other stuff - gyms, spas, dentist - I still use the ol' telly to get things done most of the time.

you either didn't read my post at all, or you live in a city... town of under 1million people. which is fine but almost impossible to navigate a US Major city without it.

That's pretty much my issue. I'm not denying that ********/IG are insanely efficient for staying in contact with or reaching businesses. I just hate getting sucked into "social media world" full of fake bitches fronting for complete strangers. This is more prevalent for those of us under 35

Yes, it's pretty essential nowadays since it is tightly embedded within society. Honestly, I do not use my personal accounts often but I am active on my business-based ones. The people who are refuse to adopt social media reminds of the old people who refused to learn how to use the computer. It is inevitable... why put it off?

"Required" is hyperbole, but it can be useful to have a social media (FB / IG) account to keep track of events in your area.

Have never, and will never need FB / IG for restaurants.

NYC, since OP seems to link social media as a requirement to navigating cities.

Not needed here or in any of the bigger cities around me, I just google places and call them. Social media can be helpful but its not needed.

No social media at all, don’t feel like I’ve missed out

Had ******** for about a year but deleted it in 2011

Never had any other SM at all, no instagram, snapchat etc

I don’t even have Uber eats or food delivery apps, now I live in Iceland I find no use for them as we just eat fresh food daily and my gf cooks the best meals

Literally just use the internet for music, movies, fight shows and trolling lol.
