Anyone here collected Pandemic Unemployment due to being laid off from Covid19?

Im lucky I still work and didn't get laid off, but I feel bad for people who got laid off

PUA or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance was passed a few months ago and allows even gig works and self employed to collect a weekly check if they were laid off or are hindered from making ends me due to the coronavirus.

Different states have different rates, I think in California the minimum is $167 and the maximum is $450 in unemployment checks a week, they added a $600 bonus weekly check on top of that until end of July, but the house wants to extend it, the GOP is out of touch in this scenario because those millions of people are not going to be able to get a job by August thats unrealistic, many of the reasons and main reasons they got laid off is because Businesses they worked for closed down so even if the job market opens back up many of these people will be competing for other people to get these entry level jobs and many will still be laid off for a few months.

I was wondering what your guys opinion is of this. Do you think they should extend the bonus 600 checks for unemployed until January.

Nah you're crazy. They can take regular unemployment, not the additional $600.

I am sure they will extend benefits, simply because people are easier to manipulate after living on government hand outs. Why apply yourself when everything is free?

Minimum wage in my state is like 280$ a week max.

That doesn't even pay for a studio apartment.

So you're basically saying someone who became unemployed because of the pandemic, should simply be ****ed into homelessness.

Did you get the PUA as self employed or gig worker? I know a lot of people haven;t even got there cause they cant get a line, they been frozen out for weeks trying to apply on EDD.

This is not a simple cut and dry issue dude. Im conservative leaning this was a pandemic you can think it was a hoax or not but the reality is here businesses went under and millions lost jobs because of it, it will take longer than one to two months to get people working again. The bonus check should be extended until things are secure.

I know many blue collar republicans who been laid off and won't be able to survive.

$600 tacked on to unemployment is ridiculous no matter how you try to justify it

Its pretty sad that they dont want people who already get the low end of the PUA to get the extra 600. They think the jobs are easy, Im wondering if these people are well off, secure or living off their parents dime. They also forget unemployment is taxable income it snot some free gift like a stimulus check.

I was lucky I still have a job, and will work fulltime again soon. But I seen the devastation this shutdown has caused. Businesses went under people gotta understand thats the reality its not going to be easy to get a job in one month, the GOP is out of touch again and it makes them look bad if they don't extend the assistance. A lot of the workers who been laid off are the blue collar conservatives too. This isn't a partisan both democrat and republican voters have been laid off.

Is PUA the bonus? I can tell you I get $300 + $600 per week. I only made like $35,000 in 2019 and I was down to $150/week before I was furloughed, srs. Not self employed, just hourly employee.

minimum wage is for minimal living. always lol at these fools trying to say that min wage should be higher whereas they can afford their own apartment, a car and vacations just lol.
Bro what the fuk are you talking about minimum wage for.

280$ a week for unemployment isn't what you get if you make minimum wage, it's the fuking cap. It doesn't matter if you were making 15k a year or 150k a year, you are not going to make more than 280$ a week from unemployment.

So you're saying I should have to move my wife and child into a single bedroom somewhere, ditch my house, my car, everything I can easily afford right now, all because the Government decided I couldn't work my job for months? And that's ****ing reasonable to you? You're comfortable with the government just fuking your entire life up on a whim?

yeah the pua is the assistance check. the 600 extra. dam they only giving you 300 a week? that 600 hundreds gives more help, especially since you are in California

My neighbor she is screwed, she is an independent contractor and made 45k last year she worked for a private owned tutor service for special ed kids, and got laid off. She is only get 167 a week some mix up in her paperwork and she still hasn't been able to get ahold of EDD for the last 4 weeks to correct it. She is making less on pandemic assistance. Some people think this is some freeloaders, this is temp to assist people during this Coronavirus and its still taxable income.

That is low man 280 max a week, what state are you living in the cap is only 280 dang, in Cali I think its 450 cap with a 167 minimum. I think newyork the minimum is 104 dollars weekly the 600 bonus check extension should be approved a lot of Americans are screwed.

Then, if i'm not mistaken, you add the percentage that unemployment pays based on your salary. I'm not sure how it adds up, i just know she's basically making more now than she would working her normal hours.

Fukin lame. I worked in a real estate office and heard about some realtors getting independent contractor benefits, but don't know anything about it.

Yeah extra definitely helps. Been paying down some debt I couldn't get on top of with my reduced hours. Making sure they deduct federal tax

The GOP for some reason thinks all these people are going to be able to work come end of July lol, they bailed out so many rich people yet they mad at an extension of 600 dollars weekly until January.

I wonder if they are picturing minorities freeloading, it seems to be the case, they dont realize many of those laid off are blue collar workers who likely support Trump

I got it like a champ. Wouldn't think in a million years I would need to be on unemployment (since I own the business lol). But it helped while we were shut down completely and dammit I've paid into it for years so no qualms taking it. Also got PPP so another 22k forgiven on top of it (or after it if I'm being specific).

I’ve been collecting unemployment but I don’t get an “extra” $600 a week I just get $600 week. Not complaining though it’s helped me stay alive.

Do you think they will extend the extra checks through January or will they cut those bonus checks out or just reduce them? A lot of people are going to be hurting bad, Mitch McConnell thinks all those American who got laid off will be able to work in August
