For People that want an idea of what pre 9/11 days were like Movie Homework.

Being born in 1980 and being 21 when 9/11 happened I remember very vividly as an adult and not a "90's Kid" what it was like pre 9/11. The world really has gone downhill ever since that day. And Has just got worse over time.

The 90's truly were much more care free back then and it's not even nostalgia for me and I never dream about reliving those days. But i do look back on them fondly.

So Below is a good List of Movies to watch if you want a true feel for what it was like pre 9/11. Most of these are late 90's to very early 2000's right before 9/11.

1. - You've Got Mail - Tom Hanks movie. Good movie that captured the late 90's really well, when your biggest concern was how your "coffee" represented who you were as a person. And how fun and unique the internet was back then and just how "New" it was. The movie is the epitome of life in New York pre 911. Also gave a great showing of how big "Chat Rooms" were.

2. - Office Space - Great Movie on what it was like working a 9 - 5 in the tech field. And what it was like worrying about the "2K Bug"

3. American Pie 1/2 - Both Great Movies of what that era was like for a teen. Does a good job at showing how kids were just worried about getting laid back then and no one that age cared about "social Issues" or anything political. Also what it was like without cell phones and social media.

4. American Beauty - Middle-American family dealing with hidden insecurities, boredom and failed ambitions. Problems that seemed so poignant and significant before 9/11.

I'm Sure theres more but those ones are truly defining moments for what it was like just pre 9/11

1998 was my favourite year tbh. At university, not a care in the world apart from hanging with friends, chasing girls, drinking, playing soccer, skateboarding and watching WWF (WWE) in its prime.

Are we talking good movies from the 90's or movies that portrayed average life back then? Like where does Big Lebowski fit? American History X? Independence day?

its a totally different world now. All I can do is reminisce about the beautiful culture we had back then, the happiness, old video games and TV shows. Nothing is the same anymore but it was all by design by the elites to bring the country down

American Pie was one of the first "teen" movies that promoted promiscuity and degeneracy. The state the world is in now is a direct result of movies like American Pie.

LMFAO bruh you're obviously extremely young and never saw the porky movies along with a slew of other teen movies that promoted that. American Pie is a great snap shot of what it was like being a teen in the late 90's right before 9/11.

OP would you agree 1998 or 1999 was the GOAT year?
All it takes is Mookie Betts, Steph Curry, and Joe Burrow all sitting in the same car in order for one drunk driver to make the world a significantly better place.

Good movie. In retrospect bit of a yikes moment with rapey Spacey having his near-romance with a teenager.

Was born in late '80s but remember the mid to late '90s being so much more relaxed. Culture was more WHACKY and ZANY, everything was EXTREME! But there wasn't quite the snark, irony, or apathy. There was more hope. All the righteous indignation was Tipper Gore and politicians trying to "protect the kids," now it's the kids themselves trying to "burn it all down."

Holy **** so much this.

For us old people, American Pie was a reboot for a new generation of what had been a dominant genre in the 70s and 80s.

Wrong.

In the end the happiest of the group were the ones who found love, listened to their parents, and started families.

You are looking at it through a 2020 lense, where everything is this BS “us versus them” political statement.
