Possible to achieve an Asian/Russian squat?

Can a person go from piss poor ankle mobility to Russian/Asian squat status with daily stretching?

Of course. Practice makes perfect

Decrease the weight to work on form then work your way up

Yes I did that. It saved me when I had some fainting episodes in the hospital too. I just folded down into a squat instead of falling over.

I'd recommend you start by sitting in a deep squat every day. Over time you'll get to the point where you can do it for a bit. Once you have that then start by loading it with just the bar and LP your way up to a working weight. Be careful not to rush though or you'll end up doing a good morning in your squat.

Go to China. Spent a few weeks there years ago, you learn fast when your only way to chit is in a hole in the floor.

The vast majority of mobility is psychologically based until you get into hypermobility training. Seriously, reach across your body with your arm as far as it can until it hurts, hold it there, then exhale slowly and push past the "limit" you thought you hit, you'll get an extra 2-3 inches.
